So I have a wedding to attend on September 19th.....

The bride is a Northern Illinois fan but her husband and his family are Iowa fans. She planned the wedding at 4pm on September 19th thinking Iowa played at 11am that day like they do a lot. Well this backfired nobody is happy. Official invites went out last week and the wedding is at a State Park 1 hour away to boot, meaning there probably will not be a TV with access to cable/sat. This is friend of my wife's but she's in the "I have to go so you do to" vain. She's as let down as I am about the time but it is was it is. Maybe we can leave early from the reception and catch the 2nd half.

Just another reason why fall weddings are a bad idea.

I agree fall weddings should be banned. The bride should at least check to make sure the wedding does not conflict with the games by scheduling on bye weeks.

You might be in luck if the wedding party hurries. That is the week of the Pitt game it starts at 7. So you could be out by 7, listen to the radio on the way home, and watch the 2nd half at home. Pick a table that is likely to get in line for food first. In worst case scenario have a smart phone ready for a gamecast.

I have had this happen to me a few times. Just be prepared.

Also since this is just a friend of your wives you could sit in your car listening to the game while she is in the reception. I have done that too.

I recently got engaged and my fiance originally suggested a fall wedding. Well just about all of our friends and family are sports fans. We haven't set an exact date yet but it'll be a spring wedding.

Be careful with scheduling spring wedding too. The basketball team is going to have a good year and will be making it far in the post season.

Well we are thinking May at this point, so late Spring. Basketball shouldn't be an issue. ;)

Good for you, put your damn foot down early (It will probably be the only time after the wedding is over)....just sayin'.....congrats and best of luck....;)

this won't be a season to anticipate, much less remember. So you miss a game live, don't sweat it. You will have saved yourself a lot of frustration. About eight 3rd downs where they didn't pick up the first down. You'll miss about 12 first and 10 run plays for 2 yards. You'll miss a field goal or two attempts.

Enjoy the wedding. The hawks will play another day.

Thanks man. You're right, I don't (and won't) win many battles as it is but at least she understands the importance of fall football. :)

If she can't wait till spring or summer then why marry her is all I gotta say... Fall is out of the question and non negotiable. If family or friends of mine want me attend they know better...

Someone told me you can tape this stuff but I've never been able to figure it out. Any helpful tips? I've never met the guide on my TV, so I'm not sure if he/she can help me either.

Actually, this game is on BTN so they will replay it the following week also...that is, after the several hundred Ohio State and Michigan reruns from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Freaking BTN...you'd think it was a still the Big Two.

I know it's on BTN because I'm in Chicago that weekend dropping my daughter off for college. I'm so tempted to drive to Iowa City on a whim. Since we live on the West Coast...right now the schedule for Saturday is for us to buy the stuff she will need for her dorm room (bedding, bookcases, etc). The better question for this forum, is how do I get out of that stuff? I don't need the "commitment to our children" speech from the ball and chain.

Right now the plan is to "tell her I need to take a business phone call around 3:00pm, go to the hotel lobby, walk to the car rental, and not come back until about 2:00am." It's all I got right now.

Games on BTN can be watched on a smartphone in a church pew. Probably will have the guys behind you looking over your shoulder.
