So Can we win the Big Ten title with this offense??

I think we are rated out of the top 100 in the country right below Illinois in total Yards per game. I think we will improve a bit as we have some teams with lesser defenses coming up but I don't expect this team to be a "good" offensive team in the future.
Of course we have a very good and opportunistic Defense and great Special Teams to help cover but like everyone is thinking can you count on it saving the day forever? Frankly we have been pretty lucky as well. Not only in the last game knocking their QB out but in other games with key penalties that kept our drives alive and stopped some as well. Not to mention I can't remember a year when our injury situation has been this good 6 games into the season
Our offensive line has not really looked very good. We must have the most runs for negative yardage in the conference. But QB is still the most important position and just isn't a strength for us. I have been watching Iowa football for a long time and have seen some pretty bad QBs Frank Sunderman Roy Bash Kyle Skogman and others but I do believe Petras is the slowest afoot I have seen
But just when I think we will never score he throws a strike for a 40 yard TD.
Maybe we can do it. the national media thinks so but we better be ready every Saturday because with this offense we can't just show up and expect to win (maybe Illinois)

I think they'll lose 1 game they should win, either @ Wisconsin or @ Nebraska. And it will be the defense letting up, not the offense as the reason why they lost. The offense will put up over 30 every game the rest of the way.

If we gain +30 every game, then the defense would have to let up significantly! Somehow, I do not see that happening. I think it more a stretch that we put up +30 the rest of the way. Not so sure against WI..............they seem to be pretty good on that side of the ball even though their offense is a complete dumpster fire at this point........

Gotta win the West first! If we win the West, then......

It all depends on the match up if we make the Big Ten title game.

What I've seen of Michigan and Michigan State, we match up well.

Penn State? We just defeated them.... but they are a very tough, talented team on a neutral field. I think we would certainly have a decent chance to defeat them again, but our defense will have to do a better job if their starting QB Clifford plays. He is a special talent.

Ohio State's offense is awesome, but I really think our offense can move the ball on their average defense.

Look, we have a developmental program that gets better as the season progresses. Let that sink in for moment.

Okay, ready? Our defense and special teams are the best in the nation. We have a freshman LT and a sophomore RT. Do you think they will get worse or better?

So, who wins it all this season?

Georgia has the best defense in the nation. Iowa is second to Georgia, rather indisputably. Otherwise I agree.

We can certainly win the West but Wisconsin and Nebraska will both be toss ups. No, I don’t think we can beat Ohio St. with this offense. It’s not impossible but highly unlikely in my opinion.

We beat a great defense, but their defense and great quarterback made mince meat out of us. Only their QB injury allowed our anemic offense to crawl into contention. Sure, our good efforts revealed weakness in their QB’s physicality, and thus their team. But that’s a low percentage method to depend on against well-rounded elite teams.

Can you say: Gavin, or Mr. Williams? Get him warmed up in the bull pen, now. Goodson is too interested in chest thumping himself on TV for a rare good run – he’s embarrassing himself, as both he and Kelly-Martin oddly fall down when touched on an ankle. Goodson’s new ‘spin-move, spin-move’ can’t substitute for the quality we need, but kudos for his 7-yard drag pattern across the middle.

Petras’ missed passes, BF’s anemic 1st half play calling, and a running back that’ll rarely jump the hole at diversity, as in previous years, doesn’t bode well against elite teams.
Trolls: Ugly dwarfs who hide out under bridges and jump out to frighten children. Now, Iowa Plan, I have never seen you. But could you send us a picture of yourself? Thanks!

Absolutely not, we score 30+ once more this season.

Look, every team has weaknesses. No team is perfect. Not even Bama, as we just saw.

On offense, we are weak at OT, QB and playcalling. Those issues can improve and they are all related. BF has got to do a better job of understanding his QBs and his tackles limitations. The tackles are getting better each week, but they need time and confidence. Don't ask them to hold up 1-1 with a great DL for a 11 step drop.

Petras is not going to make plays off schedule. BF needs to put him in a position where he is making fewer reads and releasing the ball quickly. His feet are not great and his instincts in the pocket are not much better, but he has an NFL arm and is accurate with a clean pocket. More boots, more quick release horizontal passes and 5-7 steps drops, not 9-11.

IMHO, this offense can be good enough. The burden is on the OC to tailor to what he has.
