Michigan and Iowa both tried some sweep plays and there were some of them that looked like old time football. I mean there were four or 5 defenders crashing into pulling linemen and fullbacks and blocking receivers to get to the ball carrier.
It was a great display of defense by both teams but I really loved watching the hawks flow to the ball on those sweeps, jet sweeps and a couple end around type plays. The hawks had great inside out technique, squeezing the runner to the boundary and ready for any cutbacks. And the cornerback and safety were there hem them in.
As some of the football announcers like to say, it was 'slopperknocker' football.
