Pick your number then justify it.

1) Great season

2) Good season

3) Avg season

4) Disappointing season

5) Season suckage intact

I guess I will go first.

#4 Disappointing. Giving the easy schedule we should have had more wins

In my mind, it is a very rare instance where the result of a bowl game changes the perceived outcome of a season. This year is no exception to that rule for me.

To me, 8-4 would have been acceptable, whereas 7-5 sucks. It especially sucks with this schedule, just as 8-4 is barely acceptable with this schedule. This is all in the context of having been 8-4 a year ago with a first year QB staring as a sophomore.

#4

Blown meaningful games speak for themselves
Not beating anyone (1A), even with a bowl win, with a winning record
No QB development, no WR development, no offensive game-scheming development
All this with probably the quietest Outland Trophy buzz I can remember. And bowl buzz.

Number 5 all the way. Gave Iowa State one of it's two wins. Gave away one against Nebraska. Trophy case is totally empty. Great job Kirk, enjoy the bowl game bonus!

Gotta go with 4. Even with a win on Friday, it was a dissappointing season.

isu, md, nebby - had a 10+ point lead in all of them...ugh. hold on in even 2 of the 3, and this year feels a ton different and I would say even 2) above applies. But alas...tough year.

Exactly.

I would add:

No identity -- offensively and defensively.

Terribly inconsistent play and play-calling.

5. Disappointing leads one to believe that we "just missed." The reality is that we pizzed away a B1G West Division title and no one outside of Iowa is even surprised.

5
After losses ISU, Maryland (blowing 14 pt lead), blown out by Minn (still haven't won in that stadium), Wisco and Knebbie?

Let alone 9-7 halftime score against Ill-annoy alone should have had the entire staff looking for work

5. We beat nobody all year. Gave ISU one of its 2 wins, Maryland had 2 wins at home all year, and we were one of them. Stale, boring, predictable, you name it. It's nothing but downhill from here. Absolutely no reason to be optimistic about next year unless CJ stays, which he's not. Doesn't matter what happens Friday. This isn't just about this year, things have been trending down, and are really gaining steam now. The thing that makes it even worse is our clueless coach that absolutely refuses to try anything different, or get the best players on the field.

With bowl win = 3 (average)

With bowl loss = 4 (disappointed)

So yes, how Iowa does in bowl does affect how the season is percieved.

The 2008, 2009, 2010 teams that won their bowl ganes all helped improve the perception of how those teams are remembered.

The 2011 and 2013 teams that lost their bowl games did not hurt how those teams were percieved, but upset wins by Iowa would have help improve people's memories of those teams.

5. This season is a trainwreck of an abortion in a dumpster fire. With this horrendously weak schedule, 7 wins would be 3 wins in a normal year. Good God, we got beat by Iowa State. Iowa State is one of the worst division one teams in the country.

There are about 3 Ferentz worshipers left here. They are either mentally challenged or full blown trolls. If you think it's fine to constantly get your *** kicked by Iowa State, you are not an Iowa fan.

4 to 4.5....dissappointing season.....8 wins would be like 6 with this schedule. A bowl loss would be a 5. But, I can certainly see the case being made for a 5 with a win or a loss in the bowl game.

If the Hawks win...with CJ at the helm, it's a mixed bag. It would just solidify the idiocy that our HC has exhibited.

If we win with Rudock, great. 8-5 is better than 7-6. But I can't see that happening unless Tennessee lays a big egg.

If we lose with either...it's the perfect cap to a disaster of a season. If CJ is less than stellar, i don't put much stock in it..nor would I be too harsh on him, the kid has been riding the pine for months. If we lose with Rudock...well...we've seen that movie before.

My ideal outcome would be a win...with CJ showing what we all believe what he's capable of. But that...would be bitter sweet as it would show just how good things might have been...if...

4 and 5 look to be about the same to me. I won't be watching the bowl game, so it won't impact my opinion at all.
