Skill guys

This team has the best collection of skill guys I can remember in quite some time. ISM, B Smith, Tracy, Sargent, Goodson, even IKM. Lots of guys that can make big plays. Fun to watch and hopefully will change some games in our favor this year!

Is AJ being asked to do something different this year? I know he is seeing double and even triple coverage at times but these first four games have been quiet for him.

Yeah they do have some pieces there that have been absent for awhile in the program. Now its time to prove they can produce against B1G opponents. I'm very interested to see who can produce against the likes of PSU & Wisconsin. Smith's size and strength could be a big weapon for Iowa.

Its really too bad they don't have Fant added to the mix. He could have used 1 more year at Iowa.

Yeah he's being asked to play during early (running) downs.
We have faced a bunch of mobile qb's.
He has definitely shown his speed.

If our Quadruple headed running backs could only collectively take it to the house in the open field.......that said they can methodically wear teams down with their different changes of paces.

Young had to take that 53 yard run to the house. Leshun Daniels would have.

Then again thats only a seven yard run for most teams, because most teams don't have receivers like ISM and B Smith to spring the play with their blocking.

Ross had an outstanding block as well.

Our running backs, as a group, are among the best ever in the Kirk era at blitz pickups.

If the Daniels/Canzeri/Wadley triumverate was as good at blitz pickups CJ Bethard wouldn't have gotten beat up as much as he did, both in the pocket and being forced to scramble.

No different than Desmond King getting shut down his senior year. Offenses know he’s there and throw the kitchen sink at him and run the other way.
Slightly off topic, but that's what made Howie Long such a dominant NFL defensive lineman. He was equally adept at getting to the QB and stopping the run. If teams tried to run away from Long's side the Raiders would simply line him up at D tackle or even over the center at Nose Tackle. He was too strong for the quicks or too quick for the bigs and usually both.

Hold the edge. Play a complete game.

He’s missed several sacks by a half-step. Due to more double-teams and more playing time. Those that know football knew this was possible.

DD I too knew it was possible but I really have been waiting for a couple of the others to step up and not that d line is playing bad but you can definitely see not having say an Anthony Nelson type missing.

If I could pick two guys to have back after seeing the Hawks through four games, it would by Amani Hooker and Anthony Nelson, hands down. Either tight end would be great, but the offense doesn’t miss them as much as the defense misses those two. Chauncey Golston is good to be sure, but if he could play the role that Epenesa did last year, this defensive line would likely have a more intimidating stat line.
