I too was disappointed with Ferentz stating the timeout of spiking the ball wasn't s turning point in the game. No, but it was a situation where had it been done differently other options were open. I thought for sure he might at least say there were other options that may been available but they felt what they chose gave them the best chance.
Hopefully he'll be asked about today if our local media has the guts.
Ok to criticize, but why bring up the salary issue. It's such a petty argument, it makes him look really small-minded, and it really makes no difference. I guess the argument is paying him that much should be a guarantee against making mistakes. What, if he was only making a million a year, then it would be understandable, or at least, acceptable? Why does his salary come up every time there is a mistake made? I bet if this writer brought the same relative kind of value to the Sioux City Journal that KF brings to the UI athletic department, then he'd be making more money, too. But, then, his articles and opinions would need to be perfect. As it is, he's allowed to spout off the occasional pablum that passes for journalism.
Here is my take on the admitting mistakes as a high profile D1 coach. You start being a stand up guy and admit well I screwed up the clock management, I should of called this play, I should of been yelling fake punt, I should of spiked the ball...then you are opening up all sorts of ammunition for fellow coaches recruiting the same kids you are. I guarantee you behind closed doors he has owned the mistakes, maybe even apologized to his guys, but he owes me or any other fan no explanation. Everyone of those guys in the Iowa locker room would do anything for their coaches, that is just the way it is. Quit reading too much into this game....
Clarification requested. Am I missing something ... Did the original poster tack his own headline on this? I scanned the article but did the author come right out and say Ferentz deserves the blame for the loss? The original article headline is differnet than the one posted by the hawkeyenation fan ... Just curious.
Your chances of winning the lottery are greater than the coach being asked about this.![]()
