Since we're just throwing out names.....

here's a thought I had:

Bring back Tom Davis at $1M/year for 4 years. In addition, hire Steve Forbes away from Tennessee for $750K/year and give him the "associate head coach title". After 4 years, when Davis steps down, turn the reigns over to Forbes.

We'd get the best of both worlds. With Mr. Davis, we'd get the high-octane, fast-break, pressure defense back that we all long for. Plus, it'd fill Forbes' "void" of the X's and O's knowledge. And we'd be getting, by all accounts, a helluva recruiter that could fill what would be Mr. Davis's "void" of recruiting.

In addition, we'd have the luxury of Mr. Davis already having gone through this at Drake, so he'll know what worked well and what he could have done better.

Finally, this would allow him the opportunity to retire with grace and get the proper send-off he deserved 11 years ago.

At this point, your plan is as good or better than anything else I've heard.

Part of your error is suggesting that all of the fan base longs for the Mr. Davis system. While I really respect Mr. Davis as a person and a coach, you can say he was just as stuborn in sticking with his "system" when it was not working as a more recent coach was.

I'll take Mr. Davis's "stubborness" to the tune of 20 wins a season, upper half Big 10 finish and second round of the NCAA's to Lickliter's "stubborness" that resulted in the 3 worst seasons in 109 years, or so, of Hawkeye basketball.

I'll also take that if my only other options are Brian Gregory, Gregg Marshall and the Utah guy.
