Unlike some on the board, I don't think the defense played poorly at all. I think they actually played very well against a team that is hard to defend. Chappell has an NFL arm.
Three things bothered me in this game.
1) You are running the ball very effectively in the first half, then you get in the red zone have a third and three inside the ten yard line and you don't decide to consider this two down territory. I believe we could have gotten 3 yards in two running plays and the offensive line deserved the right to try. Strange.
2) What the hell is Stanzi doing over on the sideline after a delay of game talking to O'Keefe and getting water. We then have to burn a timeout. Incredibly dumb and if I'm Ferentz, I'm kicking KOK in the ***.
3) The defense was in great position to make numerous picks yesterday. The defensive game plan was great and the backers got depth and for the most part Sash and Greenwood were in good position (except Greenwood's error on the last play). This issue is with actually intercepting the ball. Hyde, Morris, and Greenwood all whiffed on easy interceptions. IMO, that is why this game stayed close and we couldn't get more momentum. College players need to make these plays. If they do, Indiana has three points and our offense gets more chances.
The first half I also thought I was watching the 2009 version of Ricky Stanzi. He made the play when he needed to though.
