SIAP.. Doug McDermott

Huge for Creighton as they move to the whatever the hell their new conference name is.

Good for him, has a real good shot at being a 3-time first team AA. How many people could say they accomplised that?

Their new conference gets to keep the Big East name and play their conference tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Hmm good question. Did NCs Hansbrough possibly do that? I havn't looked it up just guessing. I thought McDermott should have received more player of the yr consideration then he did. Now that Creighton is changing leagues if he has a great yr (I'll be surprised if he doesn't) then I'd say he'll get it.

Good for him? It's not like he was projected as a top 10 pick and chose to stay. His 2013 draft position was 2nd round 10th pick. He would be kind of dumb to leave college for that.

Last years 10th pick of the 2nd round:

Will Barton Contracts, Salaries, Cap Hits, & Transactions

I'll agree that being a basketball star is probably not the worst experience anyone's ever had in college, but how much money did you make in your first job after college?!?!?! ;)

2nd round picks are not guaranteed contracts. It is probably not a good more for McDermott to go into a situation without a guaranteed contract. He figures he can play himself into a first round guaranteed contract by coming back.

So it's not like he was passing up guaranteed money was my point.

Hence him coming back is a not a move based on him having a ton of offers and coming back due to loving college basketball. Do you think he comes back to school if he is a top 10 pick. I will save you the time and answer "NO WAY in HELL"

Sometimes great college players just have a game that doesn't translate well to a good NBA career. I feel this way about Doug's game. Nothing to be ashamed of.... I don't think anybody anticipated him to have the career in college he has had and who knows maybe he will prove me wrong in the NBA.

Kinda my thinking too. Coming out of college you're thinking, "big body, plays with smarts...if he works hard, he might be a serviceable MVC-level big man in 3-4 years" and here he is with the chance to be a 3X all American! Now you hear "he's a late pick...probably end up in the D-league for a stint" - sounds eerily familiar! He might just surprise us all again...

His draft stock will not be any higher next year. This is a very weak draft and I'm not sure how he can improve his stock

I hope he is a 3 timer but I don't see it. Playing in the (new) Big East will be a grind...much more so than the MVC. I think he will have a very good year but I think his numbers drop...scoring average at the very least. I really do hope I'm wrong but...

Scoring might drop a tick, but he will still average 20 points per game. Creighton actually played a pretty tough non-conference schedule (Wisconsin, Arizona St, Boise St, St. Joe's, @Nebraska, Akron, @Cal in order in a matter of 3 weeks) and he did just fine. I could actually see his numbers going up a bit, as the other teams in the new Big East will not have as good a scouting report on Creighton/Doug as teams in the Valley did.

His teammates will be considerably worse next year. He'll see every junk defense known to man. It would have been tough for him in the MVC, let alone this new conference. He might get there and of he does it will be truly deserved.

Hes a very good all around player for college but not good enough at any one thing and or not big or quick enough to be an NBA player.

Good for Creighton. It's good to see they'll have a decent shot to compete and build off the excitement surrounding the move, instead of heading into this in the midst of a full rebuilding project, and likely a bad season.

Unsure if Doug can raise his draft stock any. The good news is that as the son of a coach, money right isn't an issue. Regardless of what happens, you can't help but root for the local kid to do well his senior season and hope he can find an NBA job down the line.

since when? is that a new part of the CBA? aren't all NBA contracts guaranteed?

Shooting. He's an elite level shooter, nearly 50% from the 3 point line at a fairly high volume. He will be able to play a small ball four, he's going to be great at the pick and pop. I don't think he's going to be a star be he can certainly be in someone's rotation.
