SI: This May Be the End for Several Coaching Greats

I’ve never been a fire Kirk guy, and I’m not right now, but I would be ok with a change. The problem is I don’t know if it’s going to change anything until Iowa is farther towards the top of the NIL world. That world has passed Iowa by and playing catch up is almost impossible at this point. Gronowskinis good but I don’t think he’s the answer. Lester rolled the dice but came up snake eyes because it looks like MG can’t adapt to the way faster speed that P4 football happens at. He’s getting the protection, getting open receivers, but not finding them quick enough.

How do you recruit a QB after the past 8 years? How do you recruit receivers? Has anyone seen the size of ISU’s WRs?

Bottom line…I’ve always held that LeVar would be the best of few options as successor, but if this season continues this way after UMass I do t know if any coach is going to be able to help.

Fry says Gronowski is getting protection. It didn't seem like much protection when he got sacked two straight times in that last possession when we needed to move down the field.

I do agree, though, that NIL is so key and I don't know the solution. i was watching a bit of the Oregon/Ok St game and the announcers talking how the coaches were having a war of words leading up to the game. One point made was that last year Ok St pail $7M, I think it was in NIL and Oregon paid out $40M. To make the point Oregon put up 69 points I think it was laying an early claim to a playoff spot. Oregon comes to Kinnick, right?

I hate to see coaches get on the hot seat two games into the season. But you knew there would be calls for Kirk's head if we lost, no matter the score.

And, like most, I would assume, you can't help but wonder about our passing game.......

He often had time to read a book back there. I wonder what Petras might have looked like with that kind of protection.

Every time the program went into a funk, Kirk has been allowed/able to get them out of it. The program is currently in a funk, and I am not sure he can get them out of this one.

I don’t think a KF 4.0, 5.0 or whatever the f*ck it would be is coming.

So you didn't see the multiple times he had all day in the pocket to find guys who were wide open? If you'd like when I get home I can replay it and timestamp for you.

Every QB in every game gets pressured a few times.

He'd never in a million years admit it, but I think once he hits the Big Ten coaching wins record *not Big Ten games win leader* if the season ends on a sour note you can expect to see Lester get the keys.

If that happened I wouldn't be mad about it. Wouldn't be mad about Woods either. Fat Pitzgerald would be ok with me.

KF and Parker are the two main cogs in the wheel and they are both at the age where if they're smart they'll enjoy their remaining 15-20 years of life on this earth. It's a perfect time to sunset this thing and more millions ain't gonna buy you a single extra heartbeat.

Lester is (somewhat) a known quantity and I'd be curious to see what he can do with it after spending time in the Iowa culture and learning what the program is about since the Fry era but without manacles on. I'm also under no delusion that Iowa is ever going to win the B1G or make the playoffs as things are currently structured. Iowa football is now about just trying to have the best season possible since bowl games don't really mean anything accomplishment-wise anymore. Woods...same deal.

As I get older I love the Hawks 100% as much as when I was a kid going to my first game. That'll never change. But my days getting stressed over it are doneski. College football that I grew up with is dead and dead things don't come back to life. As I get older my priorities of what stresses me out are changing and I'll root like hell but I won't get mad about losing or let it ruin my day like it did when I was younger. Some of you should try it. It's liberating. I'll pick and choose the games I do or don't go to, and win lose or draw I'll have fun watching, whether it's in my garage or in the stands.

Oh, and one more thing...if Seth Wallace gets the job I'm buying Illinois gear and you guys can have the Hawks until he retires or gets fired.. They'll be dead to me and I'll never root for any team that guy is in charge of. I liked Lovie Smith, I like Bert Beelima, and I never root against that underfunded blue collar team playing in a shithole town unless they're playing the Hawks. If I have to jump ship that's the team I'm going with.

So. The “new” BT features Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, USC. (Yes. USC) I wonder who will break into this gauntlet? This is what has been created. We now have 5 blue bloods with a history of recruiting the best players in the country. Their competition is a list of blue bloods in the SEC. These teams have an endless supply of $$. They are historical presences.

I don’t think it is difficult to draw the conclusion that Iowa and the rest of the BT will seldom, if ever, rise up to challenge for even a lower playoff spot, assuming we go to a 32 team eligibility.

This is what we have. A modest proposal: Kick all of the blue bloods out of the BT. Now we have a nice 13 team conference. Everybody plays 12 conference games. Two teams get a playoff spot, regardless of seeds. Who cares?

I would sign up for this in a heartbeat. At this point I have nearly 0 interest in the
Conference race. I will create my own race with 13 teams.

Right there with you. Read my modest proposal…

One would think that after this season with the Big Wins Record that The Captain would consider retiring
