SI is what ESPN wants to be in terms of Sports journalism, but isn't even close to being.

I realize they are very different mediums but SI the standard, always has been.

A real quality article.

It seems like all of the really good articles are written by "national" guys.

Just simply better journalists than the "locals", delving deeper? Players/coaches more willing to open up to the national guys? Local writers too familiar with the story/team taking things for granted?

I have always been curious about this. Thoughts?
