Shout out to Ben Niemann

For the Hat Trick! Nice work.

Awesome play by Ben Niemann!!!

Block, Scoop and Score by the late de-commit to N Illinois &
true Frosh Linebacker at IOWA.

With Bo Bowers, Josie Jewell, Ben Niemann coming up at
Linebacker........maybe even Spearman, too........the Hawkeyes
looking strong at LB in future.

Eddie Podalak said a number of times during the year that Nieman was underrated and would play on sundays.

If so than I apologize. I thought he played a couple years in the NFL. Edds was a good cover man for a linebacker, too.

After he made an initial good impression the first weeks of NFL camp in 2010 he tore his ACL and was put on injured reserve. After a full year of recovery he was released and eventually ended up on the Indianapolis practice squad for 2011. He tore an ACL in 2012 camp (not sure if same one), rehabbed in 2013 and bumped around for another year trying to recover and make a team.

So you were partially correct. He did spend five years in the NFL, much of it rehabbing from ACL injury. It's just hard to say what he might have done without the injury(s).

You know...I said I thought he would get drafted at the beginning of the year last year...and people thought I was crazy. Dude runs well...is smart...and was never out of position. I'm thinking 5th round.

Congrats to Ben. I know some of his extended family well. I have met Ben a couple of times. He has always just seemed like the picture perfect "boy next door". I have thought for the last 2 years that he would have a great shot at the pros. Technically I believe that Ben's particular skill set is even more in demand in the NFL then that of Josey Jewells. While I think both of them are great players and have major career potential, my bet is Niemann is drafted higher and has a more impactful NFL career.

And as we all know it only takes 1. I think he'll find a landing spot. LBs that can run and cover guys are as hot a commodity there is going.
