Should White, Uthoff and a few others be playing more minutes

What do you think? Fran can still play 9 guys but maybe White and Uthoff need to play 32-34 minutes instead of 27 or 25.

Woody and Gabe are getting all the center minutes which is good (plus feeding them the ball more would help)

And maybe these next two games would be good time to give Jok more minutes to get his shot going.

Uhl could be a super mismatch in the hawks favor if he could stroke a few from the wing.

I think this team needs to get more minutes from the top producers. I looked at the season stats at hawkeyesports.com and a few players could be playing less time.

To be honest there's no reason they aren't getting more minutes. You look at the Iowa vs ISU game on Friday:

Niang - 32 minutes
Hogue - 38 minutes
Long - 37 minutes
Nader - 31 minutes

Then you look at Iowa...Uthoff, Clemmons and Woody played basically half the game....and Gabe only played 14 minutes. Sometimes I think Fran's vision of "depth" is more than what it really is. Don't get me wrong I like Uhl coming in for minutes and Jok deserves to be out there too, but why is Uthoff only playing half the game?

That's been my point all along.....Fran needs to make some tougher decisions.....like benching kids that aren't in the game mentally, and aren't producing, unless we have a team that's not in very good shape....we need to get physical, and show a little more enthusiasm and grit....

I think the reason for them playing so little is because of the compition we've played. Not sure why Uthoff and Olaseni played so little against ISU though. Maybe he didn't like their effort. Nothing really stood out to me other than Uthoff being short on every shot.

But you look at someone like Marcus Paige struggling against Iowa, he stayed in the game. Niang struggled in the first half and stayed in the game. If Uthoff is truly the best true scorer on the team, he needs to be allowed to fight through it. Not saying Uthoff is either of those guys, but you get the idea

Yea I totally agree with you. Other than crappy non conference opponents, Uthoff should get close to 30 minutes a game. The only exception would be if Jok and Oglesby are both on fire the same game... so I guess there are no exception after all. :)

Olaseni got himself into some foul trouble, though. He's a very good contributor, but he's got a bit of a penchant for collecting offensive fouls on rebounds.

Uthoff and White 34 minutes a game would be just fine, there are so many TV timeouts that no 20 year old should ever be tired out there.

White, Uthoff, & Gesell should all get 30+ IMO.
Woody and Olaseni should continue splitting 40 at C.
The rest I'm not really sure, they all bring something different to the table and can have good/bad nights. That gives a max of 70 minutes for the likes of Clemmons, Jok, Oglesby, Uhl, Dickerson, & Ellingson.

I think Jok needs to start at the 2 spot and you live with the results as he gets experience and grows into the position. He's the only true 2 we have with the athletic ability to make shots. Let Clemmons spot for Gesell. Uhl is another that needs more minutes to get acclimated and experience. Rotate him in when either White or Uthoff need a blow. And I'm thinking it may be time to start Gabe. More athletic. Blocks more shots and a better overall offensive game the Woody.

I also think Jok needs to get back to shooting every time he's open. I think he's being too careful in his shot selection and the indecision might be causing him to miss. It's not like our offense is good at working it around till be get a great look. The longer we pass the ball around, the more likely we turn it over. We are probably better off more often than not if Jok takes the first available shot.

yes, if ISU's guys play 36+ minutes (in a blowout) then Iowa's best players can play the same amount of time. Get quality guys quality minutes and run the offense through them. They're in college, they don't get tired.

I looked at the box score and saw both White and Uhtoff had 32+ minutes.

Gabe had 25, not sure if Woody had foul trouble but need to use their 40 minutes the best way.

Clemmons had a bum ankle but it was good to see Jok and Gesell get a lot of minutes at point and off guard.

I was glad to see starters and guys with hot hands, Josh O had 22 minutes, get the major playing time.
