Should Kirk...

Be talking to eric may about using his 5th yr of eligibility as a walk-on wr?

I really think this is something that might intrigue may and he could actually help at the position...6'5 220 lb wr would with his athleticism. I would bet he could be just as quick and/or fast as anyone we already have at wr.

I'm assuming Eric May played football in high school, right? Anybody know how good he did/was?

He played HS football. I know he has had back problems so that might be a barrier to giving it a try. He definitely has the athletic skills for the position or for that matter playing safety.

He was a qb in hs and I believe he played some safety. He was recruited by iowa to play football at one point.

I think if he had played football instead of basketball they would have made a safety/lb out of him or a te. I just thought wr would be the easiest to come in and play given his back problems at times and his natural athletic ability.

Unless Eric may believes he can play over seas in bball I think he should consider at least trying it. He was a recruited football player and there is nothing wrong with giving it a shot.

I think Eric is ready to 'go pro' in something other than sports. He had a great college bball career after struggling with back issues. Messing around with FB at this point in his life wouldn't make a lot of sense to me. I wish him success in whatever he chooses to do.

Um, you realize you still only have four years of competition eligibilty right?

If you don't google the term redshirt.

Crappy part is he would have to go to another school and enroll in a masters program that Iowa doesn't have and then apply for a fifth yr from the NCAA. That is what Greg paulus did when he played for Syracuse after four yrs as a pg for duke. You can play five yrs of sports in college if you do it correctly caarhawk.

i just wonder what could have been with his size and athleticism in football.

He would have to play in Fall 2013 as that is his last year of eligibility. He is finished with basketball but could play football if he wanted.
Since he is not out for Spring practice, to my knowledge, I doubt he is going to try it. Read somewhere he may try to play in Europe but guessing he will graduate and join working world.

Unless they have recently changed the rules, I don't think he would have to change schools. Stevie Johnson played 4 years of bball for ISU (1996-2000) and then played football for them in 2000.

Has Eric actually said anything about this or is this all fan conjecture at this point?

Eric has been a great hawk for the past 4 years so while I agree it would be a long shot on him ever playing, I for one would love another year of cheering him on if he wants to give football a try.

This is just me as a fan...conjecturing what he could be as a football player. I didn't realize that about stevie johnson at isu...shows how little I care about them.

Btw other posters have commented in the basketball forum on this topic saying that a basketball player at isu played 4 yrs and then used his 5th yr of eligibility to play football for isu in like 2000. So unless the ncaa has changed the rule he could possibly do it. But thanks for playing.

He has a 3.8 in accounting and the European leagues want him. He'll pursue one of those two options rather than risk permanent injury playing one season for a crummy 4-8 football team
