Should Hoiberg have played it different at the end?

The game was tied at 75 with 29 seconds to go. ISU could have fouled and forced OSU to make two free throws with 25 seconds left. ISU would have had ample time to drive and tie or take a 3 point attempt for the win. Everyone is talking about the charge call, but I feel Hoiberg didn't make good use of the clock. Just an opinion on my part, but did anyone think it could have been played differently?

With them playing a team from the BoneG, you'd have to think they were going to score anyway so I love this idea. However, you risk going down 4 when the BoneG's defense takes it away and then you have to foul again. Tough situation.

Do not agree, play solid defense as OSU could make a variety of turnovers or miss the shot.

What I dont like about what ISU did was put no pressure on the ball , try to trap, or something. Instead ISU which is not a great defensive team just lets craft dribble for 27 seconds. sort of like a prevent defense in football

If Iowa had done this at the very end of the first game against Minnesota - say against Mbakwe, a terrible free throw shooter - I wouldn't have been opposed to it.

That game was never tied with under a minute left so not sure what you are talking about. Fouling in a tie game would be the weirdest strategy in basketball history

Keith Stone is right. Hawks were up 2 at the end in MPLS until Hollins drilled that 3 in the corner.

Interesting move to foul when up 2 as long as you foul a poor free throw shooter.

That's like saying let's allow the other team to get close enough to kick a field goal, make sure they make it then we will get the ball back and score a TD for the win, that's logical.

The reason you never intentionally foul with under a minute left in a tie game, is because if you do the other team could miss the free throws on purpose so the game is still tied and they'll foul you on purpose to put you on the line with a chance to take the lead. Nobody in their right mind wants the opportunity of making the free throws so they could have a lead in the closing seconds. Much better not to even have the ball in that situation. I'd immediately tell the boys to take the 5 second call on the inbounds, for the simple fact its better not to even have the ball on offense. (Heavy Sarcasm)

Hollins hit the 3 with 11 seconds to play after Tubby had used two timeouts. Mbakwe is a iffy proposition at best from the line, so the worst case scenario there is you're tied with the ball, and holding for the last shot.
