Call his plays from above? What are the advantages/disadvantages of seeing the field from the box as opposed to being on the field?

I'm surprised that at least 1 of BF or KOK isn't upstairs. Like the OP pointed out, there are thing you see up there that aren't evident at field level.

If you're at games live, you'll see BF is in Petras' ear before and after every drive as well as timeouts. Pretty animated and lots of gesturing explaining what he's talking about. Not animated in a bad way, just lots of "visual" conversation. Stuff you definitely couldn't get from a telephone. During the Colo State game I also saw lots of "calm down" talks and gesturing as well. You know, the both hands flat out in front of you up and down chill out gesture, during which I'm sure he was trying to keep him from getting too rattled (most boo birds I've ever heard for the home team in Kinnick that day).

In 2015 we sat down right close to the Iowa bench on the north 20-25 for 3 games which was where the QBs sat and hooked up to the headset for the OC who should not be mentioned. Here's how that went...After every drive CJ and Wiegers would come over to that bench, put headsets on, and talk to Craig Davids in the booth (Wiegers just stood there and listened). After that they'd just kinda walk back over to the sidelines, no other coaches really came over to have any interaction with them (remember we had no dedicated QB coach at that time.). CJ was a special bird and he could perform under about any kind of stress you could put on him, but I don't think Petras or Stanley could operate like that. Those two guys don't have the ice in their veins like Ricky and CJ did. They need someone meeting them coming off the field and someone giving them a "go team" when they head out there. Brian played a lot of big time college ball and I'd be pretty confident saying he can read the field and what's happening on it from ground level.
