Shocker! Some Iowa QB love

It would be nice to see the coaching staff demonstrate the ability to have the QBs improve over the course of a career...Stagnation, regression, fear of mistakes are more common.

Throwing to receivers who can get open helps this process of course.

hey, i don't recall seeing this lewerke dude other than against iowa. but why is he considered above stanley? i mean, lewerke threw for 300 more yards but 6 td's less. what gives? he damn sure didn't overly impress me against iowa last season.
I think it's his dual threat ability, AH that gets some people hot to trot over him. Same as they have done over Thorsen over the years. Thing is, opposing teams get smarter and the productivity goes down.

"but he saved his best efforts for the biggest games: A season-high 333 yards and five touchdown passes against Iowa State, then 226 yards and five more touchdowns in the Hawkeyes’ shocking rout of Ohio State."

So Iowa State is now considered a "big game"?

McSorely is going to sorely miss a few of his once-in-a-lifetime teammates. I think he takes a big dump this year.
Hate to burst your bubble but they got a running back that will make people forget about Barclay and l believe the number one high school defensive lineman in the nation. Tons of starters back and got us at home, I think? Gonna be a tough one in Happy Valley. Wisconsin's QB is a bum, went to that game and he basically tried to hand Iowa the game. Got a little hot in the second half but was God-awful in the first half. MState QB is good ,tough to argue. McSorely is a game manager, not spectacular considering all the talent he has to work with. That last second throw against Iowa was luck over skill. I would take Stanley over probably all of them if I got their wide receivers.

We'll see who the bum is in September this time in CR won't we? Not that I think either is a bum but Hornibrook was lights out better than Stanley last season in Madison, even with his 3 INTs. You won't get that in 2018, and that spells your demise.

BTW, even with Hornibrook's INTs, his efficiency was 20+ points higher than Stanley's. Just saying.

Well what I saw was a QB with a great offensive line and good receivers absolutely suck. Stanley sucked as well but he had no time to throw. Horny threw uncatchable passes, wilted under minimal pressure, and the Whisky fans around me knew it. He had a couple of nice passes in the second half but I give more credit to a ferocious offensive line that wore Iowa out. I'm watching the e game in Iowa City, where the hell is CR.

I'm going to say it again. Nate Stanley will go down as one of the top 3 Iowa QBs of all time. He also has the best opportunity to play in the NFL of any QB to play for Iowa. The kid is a winner...he just has that look to him.

If we can protect him...the completion percentage goes up and he can win games without a stellar running game. We haven't had that in awhile...although CJ won games with his arm and legs in 2015.

Stanley has a very high ceiling...we just need to give him time to throw.

Well I'll say this. 2 more years that are as good as last or better stat wise and that top 3 rating can pretty much go without saying... The fact he's got the prototypical size that the NFL is all about wanting in their QBs is just great for him moving on.

I'm not really trying to say one QB will be better than the other, I think both will be very good college QBs by the time they graduate. Hornibrook played most of the season with frosh and sophomore WRs. Our OLine was very good at the run game but only average when it came to pass pro. It is something they are working hard at improving during camp. BTW, CR stands for Camp Randall, for the one who didn't know. Hornibrook also has prototypical size and is very accurate if he can set his feet. Stanley might have a stronger arm but Hornibrook can make all the throws as well. He's also been very good in the 2nd half of games in clutch time, converting 3rd downs and putting opponents away.

Few Badger fans who have watched Hornibrook over the season and half he's played question his accuracy as his completion PC would indicate. His footwork in the pocket has been a work-in-process. IT has caused a number of his INTs. As I've posted, he's worked diligently on that since Bowl prep and will cut down those INTs considerably in 2018. Two more things, he throws downfield which his YPA would indicate. He also leads his team to TDs when in the Red Zone. Something Stanley seems to do as well.

Just trying to make the point to not sell Hornibrook short by bringing up his INTs or question his accuracy when in 7 of his games last year his completion % was 65 or over and he threw 1 less TD than Stanley in 30+ less tosses. Even with the tougher schedule this year I'll bet those numbers go up significantly and the INTs trimmed in half.

Well, if Stanley ends up a failure or just plain mediocre, nobody can say it was because he was jerked around. Stanley's potential was recognized early and he has been brought along very slowly but predictably.

Barring injury, If Stanley ends up failing, it's on Stanley. He has been groomed for greatness, and so far has been given every chance to suceed. Sure he could use an all star supporting cast to help get him there, but it is also up to him to make his teammates better.

He's got too good an arm to be a failure. You stole a good one from us perhaps because of Andersen's idiocy. Chryst tried hard to flip him when he came aboard. Credit goes to Stanley in honoring his commitment.

Well just to let you know the game this year is at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. I did report that Hornibrook played well in the second half despite giving up 14 points to one player in the game. Iowa went back to a conservative game plan against a team bigger and stronger in Wisconsin, which led many to believe that KOK actually called the plays in Iowa's win over "The (wife-beating cover-up school) Ohio State" I was extremely disappointed at the return to form of Iowa play calling. I will say this, I don't think we beat the Badgers again unless we open up the offense. I just hope Stanley actually gets the chance to show off his cannon. Until this happens we don't know how good he can be.
