Several quick-look stats

Here's a quick look at which states have the most qualifiers. Naturally there are some factors in analyzing these stats (per capita, how many DI schools in each state, how many qualifiers make AA, etc.)

PA - 52
OH - 33
NJ - 24
NY - 23
CA - 17
IL - 17
MI - 16
IA - 14
MO - 13
MN - 10
CO - 10
and way down the list is OK - 4

I'm surprised that MO and CO have so many - they're not considered strong wrestling states - and OK has so few.

Another quick look stat - wrestlers at each weight with 2 or fewer losses.

I wonder if Colorado having the olympic center there has anything to do with the number of wrestlers that come out of that state.

Good thought, but....no. I live in Colorado and follow the prep wrestling here, and I don't think the training center makes any difference. Yes, Nathan Burak spent a year after high school training at the center, but most of the really good Colorado prep kids don't spend time/benefit from the center being here - it's not a place for high school kids to go work out.

Too bad, they don't really have anywhere to go in-state.

Not true pump. The AF Academy is picking up some of the Colorado wrestlers who can meet the entrance reqts. Iowa alum Joel Sharratt is the head coach and he's doing a good job pulling in talent.

My bad, somehow forgot about the AFA.
