Secret backway to Memorial Stadium?

Is there a "faster" way to the stadium, than following 80 to 180? It seems like that will be a mess to go on the lemming path. Any and all tips from experienced attendees at Husker games are most appreciated. Your secret stays here. :)

Instead of crossing via I-80 into Omaha, go south on I-29 to the Highway 34 west (Plattsmouth, NE) Exit. You will have to pay a small toll at that bridge over the Missouri, and then wind through Plattsmouth, but then you will get to Highway 75 South/ 34 West. Take that south about 13-14 miles to where you can turn right onto Highway 34 West again. Ultimately that becomes O street in Lincoln, and easy from there. Since a huge number of fans are coming down from Omaha, this will really keep you away from that mess.

By the way, I'm not an experienced attendee of Husker games, thankfully never sending one red cent to their athletic department, but I used to live near Glenwood, IA and that was an easy way to get to Lincoln that was a more scenic and interesting drive.

34 or highway 6 if you get on it in Omaha can have less traffic but you are eventually going to get into town and hit a wall. Highway 6 you just get on center street until 204th street. However, temper your expectations as you will find traffic no matter what route you take.

Instead of taking 180 into downtown, you could get off on highway 6 and make your way through town. Or you could get off at 27th and make your way in. If you don't want to hang out around the stadium, there may be a place by the Walmart where you can park and pay for a shuttle. I did it years ago, but not sure if they still do.

If you get off on 6, you may want to go south on 84th and hit O street. Either way, I'd make sure to get into town early. Also, fwiw, 80 is 3 lanes now all the way from Omaha to Lincoln, so it *should* help with traffic, but there will still be a bottleneck in town.

Unless you are coming from Elkhorn or far west O, you won't want to jump on 6 at 204th St. Its a pain in the butt to drive through town. You'd want to jump on 6 either at the Gretna outlet malls off of 80 (but the traffic there will probably be horrible Friday) or when you get to the Waverly exit.

Leaving town should be a lot easier. Most of the fans will be gone early in the 4th after the Hawks start pounding them. As Bo has said worst fans in the country and who are we to argue with the head man.

Dislike.....

Driving through Omaha at 7 or 8 am on a Saturday morning is a breeze and you will hit just about every light. Most traffic will be gameday traffic and most of that is on I-80.

True, I guess I just hate driving in West O since they put a stop light at seemingly every other block on the major streets. And really, it's not necessary to drive down Center St. Dodge St wouldn't be bad, IMO.

Also, that I-80/highway 6 interchange may be a mother trucker with the new outlet malls/black friday shopping.

There are also several locations that run shuttle buses to the stadium area and you can avoid a lot of the game traffic completely - of course they are mostly at shopping areas so you have Black Friday to deal with. Gateway Mall at 66th and O (back side of mall between JC Penny and Yonkers) and Southpoint Pavillion at 27th and Pine Lake SW corner of town (not sure where out there) both have shuttles for $5 per person round trip. I know there are a lot of other places, but those are the only 2 I know for sure.

This is so true. I live in Omaha and on opening day of the outlet malls in Gretna, it was an absolute disaster, add black Friday and a Nebraska Game it probably will have delays

Lots of parking ramps in the downtown area in easy walking distance to the stadium. Best bet though is to probably park at one of the remote parking lots and take the shuttle bus in to the downtown area. There aren't a lot of good non-booster tailgate areas so your best bet is probably bar hopping. The 2 remote parking areas that I can think of are at Gateway mall on the East central part of town and then Southpoint which is South 27th (far SW corner of town). Kind of depends on what you are looking for.

There are also a few open parking lots further away from the stadium - some around 17th and L street - that you can probably easily get in to and tailgate. That is probably a dozen blocks from the stadium.

.

Don't know that suggesting a Wallmart parking lot on Black Friday is a good idea.
