What coach would not want a guy like that out there on the team.

Having a guy around like that has a value that cannot be calculated. Total team leadership and the ability to push team members to a level they don't even know they have. Just from a 18-21 year old perspective anytime you have "quit" going through you mind, one look at that guy would set you straight again.

Why has he earned a chance? Since he serves the military? If thats the minimum, sideslines are going to be full.

That, and he's 32, and he's still wanting to give it a shot. Maybe not quite as inspiring as Robert Conrad's character in "Glory Days", I suppose...

I hope the navy guy makes the team, NU does the same thing they did last year with the veterans day game and puts duty, honor, courage, sacrifice on the back as their names, and they have this guy as the only one who has his real last name on the back of his jersey.

Didn't Brock lesnar have a pro foozeball tree out back in the day? If I remember correctly he got worked all day and then tried to fight everyone. Tough guy here doesn't always equate to successful over there.

If a Navy Seal wanted to be on my football team, I would be waaay out of town the day he got cut.

32? How can that be? According to what I read....an athlete's "clock" starts ticking a year after his high school class graduates. From there he has 5 years to play 4...baring medical redshirt expections.

I knew that there are exceptions for religious missions (see BYU & Utah), but didn't know there was one for military service as well. 32 seems a bit excessive.

It has nothing to do with when their high school class graduates. The five to play four starts whenever they start playing on a college team.

Agree. Whether he should have a chance to be on the team or even play, the impact on teammates is tremendous. Great coaching strategy if at the least allowing this man be on the team. Grandparents must be helping allot with the kids
