Scattered thoughts and questions about the Hawks and performance today.

It would be interesting to see the size of the playbook Iowa has compared to that of an SEC/Pac-12/Big 12 school.

Has Iowa ever ran a fake punt or field goal in the Ferentz era?

It's icing on the cake watching Auburn vs. Arkansas and their offenses. It's the complete opposite of the two yard runs and three and outs I watched for three hours this afternoon.

I'm not calling for Kirk Ferentz's head like everyone else happens to be, but at the same time I do think the coaching staff AND the players need to be questioned and BOTH of them need a fire under their @$$.

I was impressed withe defense today and I think people are under estimating them. They spent a ridiculous amount of time on the field today and had some good red zone D against the Lions. The offense looked completely and utterly confused, out of rythm, and unmotivated.

It is a frustrating and trying day in Hawkeye nation, but the season is not even half way over (could be a bad thing.) We should wait until the season is over until we start putting Kirk and company on the hot seat. The frustrating part is that we are going be losing a whole lot of talent this year and are going to be even more inexperienced next year.

This leads me to my last point. Why in the sam hill did we burn Canzeri's redshirt if we aren't going to use him? At this point, in my opinion, we need to get as many people that will be playing or at least in the mix for next year, some playing time.

May all of your sorrows be drowned as mine currently are this evening.

Go Hawks!

I agree about getting guys for next year playing now. Basically it looks like the D line recruits have fizzled. Clearly looks like someone is going to have to be converted. Might as well start that process now.

Good point about Canzeri. It's a crime to not use him. I said elsewhere that our coaching is based in fear. They are afraid he is going to make mistakes. I say play him and let him learn. We need playmakers, damnit.

Part of the reason that the defense spent a ridiculous amount of time on the field is that they couldn't get a stop. I realize the offense did not help them out by not moving the ball either, but PSU ran it right down our throats, without a quality passing game, and the defense did not do anything about it. That is other than get pushed around like a bunch of rag dolls. I kept hearing before the game about how PSU's offensive line wasn't very good and needed to get much better before their offense could be successful, but they looked like world beaters at opening up holes and defending their quarter backs.
