Iowa will be matched up with Kentucky in the 2nd round (or is it the 3rd round now)? Or Duke?

Edit..meant to post in basketball forum.

I'm not sure what you're posting. Bets against making the tournament or making it through the tournament?

I don't know who we will play if we make the second (or third) round. If we make into something other than a play in game, and win 1 game, that is progress. We need something to sell recruits, like the improvement the program continues to make under him. I don't think anyone is delusional enough to think this is a Final Four team, so if we play Kentucky in the 2nd game and give them a good fight, that's good national exposure. I can live with that for now.

Sounds like the OP is asking about our odds of having to play Duke or Kentucky early on.

I don't want to see Iowa play the #1 team in the country in the second round.. That seems like the type of draw Iowa always seems to get.

There's one way Iowa can avoid that, though - play well down the stretch and move above that 8/9 line.

Yes, what I meant is the odds we play a heavyweight in next round assuming we win the first game in the NCAAs. It always seems like Iowa get matched up with Duke or Kentucky in the 2nd round.

See my reply (in "Basketball" forum) about where we would/will be seeded and where we would/will play. I'm pretty sure it is selection committee guidelines, annually.

Considering how long it has been since Iowa made it to the Dance (I consider last year as only halfway there), much less made it past the first round, this is a ridiculous statement.

We still have eight games left in the regular season and we're 15-8. There is still a lot of work to be done.

That about sums it up bob. You can almost but book it Iowa will play Duke, Kentucky, or Kansas if they win the first game.

The good thing about playing Kansas in the second round though would be that we would most likely play in the Omaha pod… I'd take that in a heartbeat!

Hell even last year we got matched up with the greatest team in the history of play in games. We definitely have a history of unfavorable matchups in the tourney.

Yep, it's been pretty brutal at times. Duke 2 years in a row, although the first time we got them in Minneapolis, but it didn't make much difference. Duke in Greensboro the next year.. Arizona in Tempe in 1996, UK in 1997 despite tying for 2nd in the conference and getting slapped with an 8 seed..

As someone else said, there hasn't been a lot of recent history to go by, but the draws often weren't exactly ideal in Mr. Davis's days. Heck, even the 1987 team would've had to play Arizona on their home court if AZ had beaten UTEP in the first round.

Iowa, on the other hand, never seems to get to play in the Midwest. 1991 was the last time I can remember for sure.

Good memory. We will probably tie for 2nd this year and have to play Kentucky 2nd round. That's of course if we make it to the second round. First we will have to beat the fully healthy team that slipped all the way to a 9 seed because of injuries.
