Same Stale Offense

BF sucks as an OC. He's no upgrade from what we had with GD. The offense needs a face lift from this coaching regime. Let's hire from outside the program for quality offensive coaches. I'm not impressed with this offense.

We need a better offense in the years to come. BF isn't the answer either. Matter of fact, I think all of the offensive coaches need to be fired.

Any thoughts?

Stale falls 9 rungs short as to how awful our offense is. BF clearly is in way over his head, his mere presence in the booth costs Iowa 7 points and 100 yards of offense a week.

KF can make poor coaching decisions because there's absolutely 0 Barta's going to do. Greg Davis was a waste

Been telling my boys to be patient with this young OC and players but dang. When the announcers and my grandma are calliing the iowa plays before they happen.. what the hell can a paid coach see and dial up against it?

What’s mind boggling is we can’t find five guys up front who can block and half way decent receivers to come to Iowa city . We can pay a guy half a million year to bring in FBS talent . Instead we pay him four million to bring in kids who would have came here anyway

Totally agree. Will it ever happen? Nope. Pretty easy schedule this year but same ole same ole 7-8 wins. If your not seeing the pattern Iowa fans then your all suckers.

its pretty stupid to say all this when Iowa scores 36 points ... and loses the game.

Brian is taking a lot of shots down field, unlike Greg Davis. Stanley just isn't hitting a lot of those passes, and sometimes the receivers are dropping them when it hits their hands. When we start hitting a higher % of those throws, we'll be a lot better.

To get good at something, you have to keep at it until it comes naturally. Right now, we are still kind of in that phase where it isn't a natural thing and we are getting mixed results week to week. We still have the tendency to turtle up at the end of games, trying not to lose. You just can't turtle up and have holding penalties too. It's almost a guaranteed drive killer.

Yeah our defense played poorly, but this is what happens when we go up against a coach who knows how to scheme against a given opponent. And willing to adapt.

How many times did Moss need to be burnt to get benched....why did it take 3 TD?

When we play teams who are either smash mouth or too cocky to even bother scheming and think their talent pulls away....we hang with them (and usually lose the close game). Or a fluke like OSU game last year.

Now how often does our offense scheme? We may go up tempo or throw on 1st down on a few series. But we don’t attack the weakness of a defense. Instead we run into brick walls.

Multiple times Purdue has 10 men in the box. Run short side of the field.

And Stanley overthrowing every other pass is killing us too.

But let’s face it. We don’t change. We don’t adapt. And we keep getting the same results unless we have a game changer at QB

Seriously...you idiots need to learn some football. Our offense is so much more complex and difficult to stop than its ever been. We go as Stanley goes. He had receivers open all over at Penn State..and he was terrible. The OC put him in position to be successful and he didn't deliver.

Today, we scored 36. We had a few strange things happen at terrible times. The snap deep in our own end...started a criticall drive off poorly and we punted and Moore got them great field position. The refs missed a block in the back...but hey...its all good. The two holding calls on the critical drive at the end, again killed us. There was also a pass interference call on IKM that should have been called. He was being held all day. If you look at the call on Render, that was a terrible holding penalty...the DT fell down. They let Purdue get away with a ton in this game. I'm not blaming the officials...we just need to make more plays.

Stanley was better today...but he needs to keep getting better. When he isn't under pressure...and his first few options aren't open...he needs to extend the play and let his receivers get open off schedule.

The offense was not the problem today.

I just can not figure out why we are so afraid to make a change when someone is not doing well. Let the back up have a CHANCE when Stanley is not good. If the back up does worse, looks like we will all get off Stanleys back.

I think its fine that people complain about stuff, that's the point of a thread, I just assume usually it should make some kind of sense. I've heard today that our offense is stale, our oc sucks, and same old same old. If you can look back on Iowa's season this year and think that things are the same old same old you're just plain silly, to be honest. Our some things the same, yeah in how we block and other things, but honestly we've ran more out of three tight end sets then ever before. We've ran out of 5 wide receiver sets more than ever before. We've ran out of trips, 4-wide receiver sets, shotgun formations, etc. more than ever before. The last two weeks some of the routes they've had our running backs run, different wheel routes and slants from the shot gun formation, to get them open. The play today where they ran our running back back into the backfield so he could get a short angle on the throw on third down, we've never run that before. The tight end screen to account for the blitzing corner today, for Noah's big gain.

How many times have we gone for it on 4th down instead of taking a field goal even though our kickers been pretty legit the last two seasons. The fake field goals, etc. Suggesting this team is stale is laughable. The only thing stale is the stupid complaints just because we don't crush somebody by 50. You may be tired of us not being Alabama or Ohio State, and that's fine, but suggesting this is the same team you've seen for the last 20 years is just ridiculous. On a game by game basis we've been starting 3 new linebackers and 2 freshmen corners. Our coaches have sent our best safety to play linebacker half the snaps a game, to get us 3 safeties on the field half the time. Like really, nothing is new, its all the same. That's just dumb.

Not stale just creating different ways to lose.
It just makes the illusion of the same old.
I got it now!

Coaches love Stanley because of his size but the fact is Stanley is mediocre as a QB. Once again the better QB on the field was on the other team.

You do realize when this post originated. Almost a year ago..
No. Didn’t.

it was a knee jerk reaction to jerks still on this site a year later. I’m kinda stale like that.

And I have no idea what constitutes a horse collar tackle anymore. And roughing the passer on Eppy?
