Sam LaPorta Embracing Music City Bowl

As NIL, which lacks any structure or legit purpose, and a wide open transfer portal, continue to make a mockery of college football, KF is not the only prominent coach, (as well as Fran), to take this so called
“innovation” in its current form, as a bad joke.
I will really miss guys like Sam as model college athletes. I will miss the 2 & 3 stars who come to Iowa, and watch them over 4 years, mature, get a legit degree, get a shot at the NFL, get to meet their families, watch them support the community, including our Wave and our children Captains, and get to hug their parents on senior day in front of 70,000/grateful fans. These young men do get room, board, tuition, academic support, great medical care, and the admiration of our fans. No small benefits!

So, I will wait for some of our posters to rail on me (hello, Fry) for not supporting financial benefits for players. News Flash: I support that concept completely. But not the wretched mess we call NIL. Are you seriously arguing that NIL is a good program? Then you are naive as hell.

Just a thought.

As someone who's raised a fair amount of money for college scholarships for h.s. kids who otherwise would have a hard time financing college without going into a lot of debt, I agree that the value of a BTen university education, support, & medical/training resources are undervalued by many.
And if all the extra money raised by fans from tickets each season (beyond the 85 scholarships) went into academic support & scholarships for other Iowa students at the university, and across the country, it's unlikely the movement for pay-for-play would have gained so much momentum.
But once head coaches started getting $4-5 million/year & $15 million buyouts, assistants started getting over $500,000 a year, and big donors started getting bottle service in their suites....well, let's just say the hypocrisy and greed was too much to avoid.
Happy Holidays, y'all!
