Sam Brodner decommited from Vandy today..Interested in Iowa

I haven't heard of him.

Is he more likely going to project at RB or LB?

We already have some talent on the line at RB. Grayshirt?

Rb - IL Gatorade and Tribune Player of the year for 14-0 state champs Glenbard West (Jordan Walsh) ( Tommy Schut - starting DT at Ohio State and Caspers starting OG At Stanford) are from same HS.

He is a beast, 5'11" 210 pound mini (poor man's) Earl Campbell style.

Super strong, thick kid with great wheels and amazing determination. Would be an amazing get. His resume is Way better than any kid on the current roster.
Watched him play since he was in grade school. Winner.

Likes Syracuse and Ilinois ( girlfriend goes there), plans on visiting Iowa in Jan.

No f- ing grayshirt.

Don't want him. He committed to another school and then changed his mind and won't be honoring his initial commitment. Not the kind of kid we want wearing black and gold...Sorry couldn't resist.

Calm down buddy.
We already have 3 backs on the line in Barrington, Toks, and Young.
All three had really, really good senior seasons running the ball.
Iowa only has 1 spot open (24 verbals already) and all indications are we are looking for an OT.

Do you want to take 4 RBs this year?
Would you take this kid over a highly rated OT?
Would you suggest the coaches pull one of the offers from the before mentioned running backs?

Coaches are covering their bases. You always need fallback recruits if something happens in Jan. with current verbal commits.

Exactly. I can see Iowa offering him if any last min signing day decommits from the other 3. Much like last year and how they went and found that kid from Alabama after that other not to be mentioned kid put on a Michigan hat... But so far all 3 of them want to come and all 3 are legit RBs. No way are we offering a 4th.

Idiot! Clayborn committed to Georgia. Obviously not the type of kid we want at Iowa.

Gester, I personally think Wade is a LB. I think Toks is good and Young is better. I think we still need to watch out for WUs, with regards to Young. And as far as the verbals go, from what I understand, Iowa can over sign IF enough 2016 commits enroll early/January. That would allow that kids scholly to count against the 2015 scholly count. So, I believe NCAA limit is 25 per cycle. Now, we sign 22 in 2015, so if we can get 3 2016 kids to enroll in Iowa in January, then we could sign 28 in 2016. So, I am just saying that Iowa could possibly take 2 or even 3 over 25 if they were the right player, assuming 3 kids enroll in January. I believe this is the correct interpretation of an explanation from another board.

But by my count we are only losing 21 Seniors. And I am not sure if all of those are on scholarship. Even if all of them are and we lose Harris and King, that puts us at 23 open scholarships. Even if you are right with your early enrollment fuzzy math, we would still be banking on losing 2 additional scholarship players before next fall to account for signing 25 kids in February.
That becomes 4 of King and Ott are around next year. 5 if Harris isn't actually gone (longer shot here than King or even Ott).
85 is the magic number.

I personally would hate to see Iowa be one the type of team that pushes kids out to make room for younger, more talented kids.

You're right, I was just providing an example of how Iowa could do it, legally, by NCAA standards. Personally, I've watch 3 videos, now, of this kid, and I didn't see one play as a LB. I didn't see a RB that would be better than Toren Young (certain of that) and maybe equal in talent to Toks. I don't see Iowa taking this kid, unless it's as kid who is willing to switch to LB. Let's assume he is as good a MLB as he is a rb, with his speed and if Wade flips to OLB, you're talking some very serious speed at LB. And this kids measurables would eventually get him to be a Angerer sized MLB.

You should take a look at this kids vids and see if you agree.

Wonder what other RB commitment is in jeopardy because with the shortage of scholarships, can't see Iowa taking 4 RBs in this class.

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully we offered him at another position bc if not, my thought is Toks is gone...

Reading a bit about him........some coaches feel he can fit on the D side as well. Some compare him to a Mike Alstott type RB........that certainly fits old school Ferentz-ball. Just announced that he has moved up his visit time to WI as well.

Could be any number of reasons why we've offered.........current player leaving, grades, etc. As we talk about this guy (WI offer as well) the Badgers are having a heck of a time landing a decent RB this season.....who woulda thunk that.

I don't think we will be losing any of the 3 RB's we have committed already. I'm sure one of them or Brodner would switch to D.

Toks was told no other RB would be taken, I hope it is clear to him and we don't lose him. He is going to be a freak in our offense.
