Iowa losses to NDSU and the Hawk coaching staff said....that's a good football team.
Rutgers wasn't happy today.
ISCATAWAY — Drew Mehringer looked like a man who had just eaten a bad burrito and was about to pay the price. His hands were on his knees, his face was pointed to the ground, and his gaze suggested a deep regret about his choices over the past few hours.
This was on the field minutes after this 14-7 Rutgers loss to Iowa. The band was finishing up the alma mater and the players were headed into the locker room, but the first-year offensive coordinator for the Scarlet Knights looked like he might throw up.
Which, well, is fitting.
"Sting is probably an understatement, I'd say," Mehringer said when asked if missed opportunities made this loss harder to take. "Closer to vomit."
He was lamenting an offense that had four chances inside the red zone but only scored once, a unit that actually out-gained Iowa but blew several golden chances to take control of this game.
"That makes me sick to my stomach," Mehringer said. "If you converted one more of those, it's a tie ballgame. Two of those, you win the game. That makes me very sick to my stomach."
