Running game...

Last year...2, 1000 yard backs with virtually no passing game and stacked boxes just like this year.

Basically same linemen this year, same stacked boxes, same run plays, slightly better passing game...but what's different...

...No use of a power back that can push pile for 1, 2, 3 yards...over the course of a game...it matters... 2nd or 3rd and 6, 7, 8 yards to go is a lot better than 2nd or 3rd and 12.

I'm not saying we should pound into stacked lines...im saying if your hell bent on doing it...do it like you've done successfully in the past. We miss Leshun...but we have a T. Young and IKM.

Sustained drives, flipped field position. Not pretty, but better than what we're trying to do.

You wanna blast into stacked boxes, run downhill and freaking do it, and use the right personnel with different looks, formations, and motion to do it....damnnnit.

Lashun is sorely missed,,,,,

We really need a strong, pound them into submission running back to compliment Akrum.....

His numbers are down simply because they stack the line against him. Like running into a brick wall trying to eventually break it down.....

Any variation would help.....There are many available.....

We did attempt passing on first down on occasion, but without success for the most part. Stanley will settle down and become more accurate, adjusting the velocity and angles better, and perhaps, the receivers will learn how to hold onto the ball if it is within reach.....

I have hope.....

Daniels would be no better. The rbs have to ckntend with 2 more defenders kn the form of a lb and db. D's want Stanley to pass and he doesnt run. There are no holes unless the d is over playing.

Having Butler back after the bye will help. I realize he was feeling his way in Iowa's zone blocking scheme, but it is clear they need a second back to take up the slack. I am not sure why someone else isn't given an opportunity while Butler is hurt.

our offensive formations might as well consist of Daniels, Stanley and Wadley, cuz that's the beginning and ending of what we do.

Sure, it won't hurt to have him back. But I ask just what in the hell has this staff done to piece together options without JB? The answer is to become even more obvious and only use AW as the running back and give him the ball all the time and to stop targeting explosive players a la ISM. I mean, wasn't TY going to HAVE to play this season if JB hadn't transferred in? What the hell???

You missed the premise. It's not about Daniels, per se, we ran against the same stacked lines with 2 more defenders last year. It's not about there being holes...

CJ wasn't a running threat most of last year, and the passing game was less effective than this year, to this point.

Again, I'm not saying that offensive premise is ideal, I'm saying if your going to employ it...use appropriate personnel.

If you are looking for an argument you are not going to get it from me. Getting TY some carries wouldn't have hurt.

It's imperative, if we are going to continue the same philosophy. And it could work, especially if you decoy AW.

2nd week in a row we basically go the entire first quarter without a first down. I'm not sure how the entire coaching staff isn't getting heat. Oh wait we have that fearless AD Gary BArta running things in the Athletic Dept. That genius who cost us at least $6m in a sexual harassment case that could've simply been rectified if he was doing his job. Whoever the money backers are that are fine with this garbage are as much to blame as anyone.

I'm noticing we always seem to be running to the short side of the field, would it not make sense with Wadley's ability to run to the wide side?

We can't run the ball because we have a non existent passing game. We have exactly zero playmakers at receiver, and a qb that is awful when pressured, and is very inaccurate over 10-15 yards. So we're stuck playing inside a tiny little box on offense again. Our receivers cannot get separation, and in the rare event they do, Stanley overthrows them. Throw in the fact we have an OC that has no business being in that position, and look at the shit show we call an offense.

Remember Iowa's future nfl rb got stopped on 4thand short needinf very little. Im just reluctant to put snything on Wadley.

Again, you missed the point. I'm not putting it on Wadley, a 195lb speed/cutting back isn't going to move a pile, and shouldn't be expected to.

I know you relish arguing, but there's nothing to argue here.

Have to take into account the teams your playing against and how they are defending you.. We are as predictable of a team as there is period still. I wish that if your going to run the ball a lot mix that up. Run counters and traps. It doesn't have to be zone all the dang time. Give the LBs something else to see so that they can't just key on following the full back or running backs first step. The Oline doing their part sure wouldn't hurt either. I'm not a big fan of having Welsh outside at RT. Put him back to RG and get Wirfs in there. He's burned his shirt let start swimming with him and Jackson at the tackle spots. Render isn't that great with a low ceiling. If we were trying to save Wirfs RS I'd take back what I'm saying but he's burned it so enough of this toes in the water stuff and lets go
