Rudock gone?

Any chance JR. told KF he would be done with football after this year which drove KF to play CJ in the bowl game? JR graduates in May and can move on to med school. He likely realizes there was no pro career for him. Might as well move on with his life and get out of the fishbowl. KF takes the opportunity to start JR and work CJ in. Now he announces CJ is the starter to satisfy CJ and put the issue to bed. Just wondering.

Why would it be kept a secret? It would be an honorable decision to for him to come out and say that he is going to forego his final season to attend med school.

If you were so inclined, one could think that JR, an obvious kfootball favorite, is setting his coach up to be able to show he's capable of changing. Yes, that would be a cynical and political viewpoint.

If I was Rudock, I would not just walk away. He can always go to med school, but if he walks away from football now, he will never get a chance to play QB at the FBS level ever again.

Med school can wait.

There's no "likely" about it, JR knows he's not aN NFL qb, his focus is on becoming a doctor and has bebeen since he's been here. I can ask if he's upset or moving on and try to find out later tonight, not sure how much info I'll get but what I can add to this topic is he 100% doesnt think he's a gift to iowa football. He's a very humble fella.

True. And it's a decision most athletes don't/won't make (choose on scholastics/career over sports); unfortunately I think the trollvernhok section of the fan base will use it as cannon fodder to suggest that JR wasn't a good QB.

JR was an above average QB his soph year in 2013, he made a lot of great throws, he ran the ball well until his knees were dinged, he made big times throws and has big wins at ISU, Minny, Nebby and a comeback win against Mich.

He was not quite the same this year but the hawks did not run the ball as well as in 2013 which makes it tougher for a QB in the pro style.

If he gets to med school, specializes he can make 200-600 grand a year for 20 years and retire at 50 with quite a satisfying life. Personally he is one hell of a hit away from some bad injury. Very few people can say the QBed a big 10 team for 2 years and then was a doctor for 20+ years. Kudos to JR.

If he already told the staff he was leaving I couldn't really see the need to put him on the depth chart.

This depth chart certainly came out of left field. Perhaps Ferentz is trying his best to administer damage control to try and keep at least one QB. I'd say it's less than 1% that they are both back at this point.

Always though CJ was the one out but this certainly throws a wrench into things. I also think that if CJ does stay that it means Greg Davis is 100% going to be the OC since he's wanted him to start for some time.

Lots of new developments this past week that is for sure.

Because we couldn't all see what he did on the field?
