Rotation question now that NIT is the ceiling...

Seriously, it's almost irrefutable practice that you go with a 7, maybe 8 man rotation at this time of the season, particularly with tournaments approaching, yet Teh Fern continues his dogmatic "purple ribbon" approach of 10 guys. Now that his penchant for wholesale shift-changes and lineup combinations that are literally offensive and offensively impotent at crucial times of the game has squandered what remote hope for an NCAA berth existed, do you think his rotation lunacy will be tamed down?

I'm almost a little worried it will get even more insane since there is absolutely zero to gain or lose -- the NIT is IT, regardless of how the next 5 games play out.

(I see them going 2-3, by the way, barely better than last year's NIT team's record. However, I think with the way Matt G was playing down the stretch, that team might have been the better of the two because it actually had a go-to shooter.)

I agree. The whole reason you should go with a 10 man rotation in the beginning of the season is so that you can go with a fresh 7 man rotation in crunch time. Perhaps this isn't crunch time by Fran's standards.

I just hope this loss isn't the straw that breaks the camel's back. Being this young and losing games over and over in this manner will eventually take its toll. Fran will really need to do his best coaching now to keep this team from folding in my opinion. I still think this team wins out at home and loses bad at Indiana.

McCabe needs to see spot minutes at the most. I can't stress how big of a liability he is at the defensive end enough.

White and Marble are good defenders, but at least they can play at the other end.

IMO, this topic is silly. McCaffrey has to play 10 guys because he never knows what he is going to get from any of them. A tighter rotation means certain foul trouble for Woodbury and Basabe, McCabe and Olaseni have to get minutes. Olaseni was the only effective big we had today, so who do you count on? It doesn't matter if we play 7 or 8, the team as a whole is not very good. Take Marble out, let White get his free throws and give Gesell his 3-4 jumpers and that's about it.

Nebraska went with a 5 man rotation in the 2nd half. Fran, Iowa is not 10 deep and your wholesale lineup changes are costing this team w's and costing the team an ncaa tourament birth

I remember the good old days when only Cyclone fans did that. They'd say Hoks and giggle uncontrollably while I shook my head and was glad that Hawkeye fans were smarter than them. I was wrong.

I don't buy it. Iowa was rolling at Penn state, playing very well. He made one of his wholesale changes and let Iowa **** away a 16 point lead in a shot amount of time. He always talks about fatigue. **** that, Nebraska didn't sub one time and came back and won in the 2nd half. Sometimes you have to dig down and play tired, that's basketball.

It wasn't the rotation today...it still comes down to playing basketball.

Now, I am not saying Iowa is 10 deep, but when Nebraska only plays 5 guys in the second half and Iowa is subbing, no way should Nebraska come back from a 16-pt deficit.

It is simple execution, shot selection, ball movement and playing within themselves. It seemed that Iowa rushed a lot of things when Nebraska was coming back and with that kind of lead...why would you?
