Roster Weights updated?

Is the current roster updated as of the summer?

I was really hoping our OL would be significantly bigger than last year.

Maybe not 320, but at least 310.

Right now, our biggest starting OL is 300 pounds...

I agree

But, We've had bigger OL's in the past.

Wisconsin's OL was huge last year, that can really wear on a defense over the course of a game.

I thought Scherff was listed at 310. I don't mind 300 pounders as long as they can move and block.

Our coaches don't seem to like as big of a line as the Badgers. Want them to be able to move a little better I guess.

As I have pointed out before, take those numbers wih a grain of salt. That said Wisky did seem to "push us around" a bit last year. The Hawks have always had decent lines, and I dont expect that to change. I think the coaching there is second to none. It has to be, because even if slightly smaller, they can hold their own.
I would like to see 310 as well (in print), but if print says 300+ I am good with that.

Some places like the o-line big, even if they are fat, with this coaching staff they aren't looking for that.

I'll take one of our guys who's 300 pounds over someone else who's 320 but 25 of the pounds is hanging over his belt..:)

I'm not in the least concerned with the offensive line this year. Everyone associated with the program has been extremely confident and high on that unit this offseason, that's good enough for me.

Wisky pushed everyone around last year. Top to bottom that was the top offensive line in the nation.

O-line size philosophy differs between schools, but I don't think size is a huge factor. Wisconsin always has bigger lines, but last year's stood out simply due to their great skill. The Denver Broncos used to always have the philosophy of small agile linemen and excelled with lines that averaged under 300 lbs.

This year's Hawkeye line is expected to be very skilled. Being skilled is more important than an extra 10 pounds.

Yep, coach them up. But he is right a few more pounds (the right pounds) with the skill would not hurt anything.

Ive never got the feeling they take those very serioulsy. Meaning I have no doubt many of those guys are actually heavier and some not even as heavy, etc........

With the exception of Ferentz and Gettis, I'd be shocked if they all didnt weight over 300.

Why cant we have a line like Wisky did last year? We are suppose to have one of the best o-line coaches in the nation so why can't we get talent like that? I have never understood that...and please don't tell me its because were Iowa..IMHO, Wisky is a step down from us from a history stake and from a well known head coach goes. Anyone see what I am saying? I just want to see what you all think.

Well I won’t swear to it, but I believe Iowa and Boston College have produced more O-linemen over the last 10 years than anyone (Wiscy included) and I was under the impression that Iowa’s O-line recruiting was good to great already.

This whole stupid thing started talking about weights, any Iowa fan knows that the coaching staff wants a lean line without a lot of body fat. The fact that we aren't as heavy as some is on purpose. Glad some of you aren't the coach cause you would have turned down Bryan Bulaga for my 500 pound neighbor who outgrew his rascal.

Iowa has areas that it can improve on, but as far as o-line goes we are as good as anybody.

That there's a big boy.

Raymond, Mccall, and Hamilton all seem big enough to have an immediate impact.

Talk about a run stopper in Carl Davis, that is a big boy. Raymon is going to be a STUD, heard is working out with DE's.

Absolutely correct ... folks get WAY too wrapped up with size/weight. The bigger question is whether or not the guy is receptive to coaching ... is he smart ... is he quick ... does he play with great technique ... etc. The problem is that most of the most important attributes cannot be discerned by the "eyeball test." Fortunately the Iowa coaches use different metrics when determining who plays.
