rondo vs westbrook

who would you want as your point guard?

my answer is probably well known. i would take rondo. i like a more traditional facilatator for a point guard. i also feel rondo is a better rebounder and defender. not to mention he can score if necessary.

i get why many love westbrook he is a phenomenal athlete at pg. but to me i feel durant and harden and the other thunder players would actually be better if rondo was their pg. westbrook can completely take over games (so can rondo) but i dont think he can control the game if he has a bad scoring night. while as we saw last night rondo can.

thoughts?

I don't like that Rondo can't shoot a shot outside of 2 feet.

I don't like that Westbrook falls in love with his shot outside of 2 feet.

Both are fun to watch but I'll go Rondo no one has a playing style like him atm.

I'd take Westbrook. He is younger than Rondo and can make a jump shot. Both players are equally good at driving to the basket while Rondo is a better assist man, but I think Westbrook can manage the team/game as well as Rondo while scoring big on a regular basis.

I think it depends on what you want out of your point guard. Personally I would want Rondo as he is more of a facilitator on the court. If you want more of a guy who can score you take Westbrook. Although I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Rondo has improved his stroke, but he's still by no means automatic.
Westbrook thinks way too much of his shot and will take stupid shots at the wrong moment. He can light it up though.

Rondo has a certain flare to his game that makes him must see BB for me. I also like the fact he does a super job of getting his teammates involved.

Depends on who else is on the team. If I'm the Heat or Thunder I take Rondo because of his passing ability. If I'm a team like the Grizzlies or the Magic I would take Westbrook for his ability to light it up. I also think if I'm starting a team and have to choose between the two I'd take Westbrook for the same reason.

Excellent point. The scoring champ and the 6th man and the 2nd place defensive man.

BUT, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are pretty good too.

i just have to take rondo no matter what because he affects the game in more ways than just scoring. he is a triple double guy. and he is a great defender where westbrook is average at best. he makes guys like peitrus better. where westbrook doesnt seem to make ibaka better on the offensive end or their other role players. westbrook can score better than rondo (consistently that is) but that to me is the only thing he has on rondo. and basketball is more than just scoring. it doesnt matter if you score 25 if the guy you are guarding scores 26...that is part of the reason okc lost the 1st 2 game parker out played him 1 on 1 so they switched to sefolosha guarding parker.

Thar Mike. Why have you not appeared in the Lebron thread yet?

Haven't been on here much the last couple days, are we having another 'LeBron sucks - the Heat will never win anything' conversation? Didn't we just do this two weeks ago when they were down 2-1 to the Pacers?

The assist to turnover numbers would indicate otherwise.

It could be argued that Westbrook actually holds the thunder back. He takes more shots than Durant but makes a lower percentage, and doesn't create easy baskets for others. Most importantly every time he shoots the ball its a time that the best scorer in the world isn't shooting.

On his behalf though, he puts allot of pressure on the opposing teams PG which is maybe his biggest asset.

Tony Parker, IMO, is better than Westbrook but he had to expend so much energy guarding Westbrook that he was not able to continue to carry the team.

I would probably take Rondo on a team that already has two great scorers but Westbrook on a team that struggled to score.

Put Rondo on the heat and they are unstoppable.

Neither, I would take Deron Williams. For the longest time he was the most underated player in my book. But between the two. I would have more fun playing with Rondo, he passes more.

I definitely like Rondo better. I like watching the facilitator point guards, and the NBA didn't start its comeback until that style of play began making its way into the game again. Out with the Iversons and Marburys (all about scoring), and in with the Rondos and Roses (guys who facilitate their teammates, but can take over a game scoring almost whenever they want).

That's the style of play I love to watch. Rondo all the way.

And coming to a message board near you Erik Spoelstra needs to fired, blow up the Heat, the Heat need to trade Wade for this player, that player, etc.
