Rodriguez does for VCU

what I was hoping Guerrero would do for the Hawkeyes. Damn

I know there aren't a lot of Mexican basketball players but wow, I can't believe you said that.

If he were white or black you never would have made that comparison. There were a lot of other super talented guards in the tournament. Why didn't you want a player like them? Did you just have your heart set on having someone of Mexican heritage on the Iowa team?

It's really sad that in 2011 people are still so damn hung up on skin color. :(

You might be the one hooked on skin color because I didn't even think that when I read the OP.

Wow, pot...meet kettle. That was kind of out of nowhere. I don't think anyone thought anything about race or ethnicity regarding the op. That was some diatribe though. You done with that soap box?

Wow, are you a member of Obama's sensitivity police? Absurd comment. People reference players all the time. Who is Basabe like? What former Hawk has a similar game to White? Is Ogelsby Gates II or better? Apparently when any minority refernece is made people like yourself get your Iowa City on and become the moral compass for others.

This is a forum about Iowa basketball and Rodriguez happens to be a jet quick, dimunitive (small, helping you out) guard that creates for others. Yes, he is Hispanic also. Guerrero is also small, jet quick and has the ability to make everyone around him better. And yes, he is also Hispanic. Without Rodriguez, VCU is probably does not even make the NIT, not to mention the NCAA. With him, they are a dangerous team, thus the OP's point about envisioning what Guerrero could do for Iowa.

Nice try at creating drama. Stick to the Oprah show champ.

to the o.p. I see what you are saying.. but I say no thanks.

I will take what Cartwright brings to the table at the point next year. And I trust that Fran will bring in the right guy who wants to be a hawkeye to take care of the point after that. I have a feeling we are going to like what all of the current hawkeyes bring to the table next year after experiencing a full system of Fran's system.

Go Hawks!

Here's an idea... bring in a guy who can play some back up PG as a true freshman or even redshirt and then start the following year. Fran obviously wanted Cezar but the OP doesn't even suggest that he would be taking over for Cartwright.

Yes, I am sure it was just a coincidence that that the OP picked the one point guard in the tournament who is Hispanic to compare to the recruit who also happens to be Hispanic.

Also, Rodriguez is from Fla so chances are he is Cuban and not Mexican. Some day Iowans will understand that not every brown person is Mexican.

This. I originally wanted to use Steve Nash as a comparison when Cezar committed to OSU, but when I looked up his height, it didn't fit. He is not diminutive enough. How race, color, creed got into this is a post is a sham.

And what you said was even dumber...

I am an Iowan who lived in Florida. And there are also a lot of other hispanics from all over not just Cuba so you sterotyped that is you a brown in Florida you are Cuban.

Well, he certainly wasn't the best point guard in the tournament. There were others who played MUCH better. Pot meet kettle? I'm not sure how that makes any sense in this context? I accused someone of possibly comparing a player to another just because of his perceived ethnicity. But saying pot calling the kettle black? Huh? That means the you're saying that I do that also. I certainly try not to, but I'm sure I have, just as any human would...but to say that in the context that you did makes me wonder if you have any idea what that phrase even means.

If he truly watched all the great guards in the NCAA and this was the one guy to compare to Cezar, then you're right. I just don't think that's true...that'd be heck of a coincidence. :)
