Rittenberg ESPN blog

Yep I read it, and for once all the way thru. I just skim most of the time. I thought it was pretty good, at times KF sounded like a kid on christmas morning, which is promising. At the end he says we are not that good and very young, I think that might be a humility and a not so much gonna tip my hand move.

It's also part of Ferentz's "mode of operation" ... he wants EVERYBODY to focus on getting better. It's basic psychology that guys won't always be as motivated if they believe that they're "already there." Thus, if the head coach says that the group is promising but still isn't good yet ... that drives the squad forward so that they'll get to a point where they can be considered "good."

i always get a chuckle about how he describes players on the team versus how he describes players on the other team. he NEVER says "great" and very rarely says "very good" when describing his own players/team, but says those words quite frequently when commenting on the other team.

he is the king of downplaying. much like his NFL friend who i don't like so i won't name.
