Rittenberg: Big Ten coaches on the hot seat

Whose seat is hot (or not) in the Big Ten? - Big Ten Blog - ESPN

Surprised that KF isn't viewed as totally safe (though close). Rittenberg is surprised, too.

I don't think that any ratinoal person could claim that KF is anything but completely and totally "safe" as Iowa's HC. I can only imagine that CBS' scoring system uses factors such as offensive and defensive performance from the prior year as a factor in the equation. Iowa's offensive production was pathetic last year; and that very well could have altered the equation enough to generate a "1" on their scale instead of a completely safe "0."

When a portion of the fan base was ready to run him out of town as close back as 2 years ago i dont think KF can be considered totally safe. After the Western Michigan loss there were way too many rubes who thought it was time to end the KF era. Then even more joined in after losing to Pitt 2 years ago

Its all rosy now but things can change quickly (for better and worse) in the world of sports

Seems to me Bret could be shoved out of Madison pretty quickly too. Big Barry is the only reason it hasn't happened yet. Most Wiscy fans think he is a huge dbag

I agree. I live in Madison, and they're not sold on him yet. This could be a pretty big year for him. There are expectations for Becky Badger this year, and Brett better live up to them.

Looking at that list there is only 7 other coaches with longer tenures at their school than Kirk. That's pretty impressive.

KF just came off a BCS win. Sorry he should be at 0. Totally safe. He would have to have a felony conviction to get fired after this year.

I remember "who's our next coach" threads on Miller's old site after the 2007 season. Unfortuately I also remember seeing Lake Kiffin's name being bandied about on that board as well.

I wonder if anybody here has ever seriously considered starting a mail-in campaign to help RR, Zook, etc. keep their jobs. Let's not forget, we want these guys around as long as possible.

The tough part might be getting enough of us to say nice things about them and sound convincing. That, and all the Iowa postmarks might make them suspicious.

This is a false statement. Most Wiscy fans know he is a huge dbag.
Seriously their head coach has literally (physically) been thrown out of bars there.

It will be a sad day if Zook or Brewer get fired. There has to be some way these tools can scrounge 6 wins this year.

Please God, I don't ask for anything, but I want this.

Considering the amount of pull that part of the fan base has (zero), yeah, I consider his job completley, absolutely, and without question perfectly safe. Iowa has had TWO head coaches in 30 years. Those three decades include some real tough patches. While a portion of the fan base may want to bail on the HC after a down year or two the AD won't - and THAT is what matters when considering how hot the seat is under the Head Coach in Iowa City.
