Remembering Kinnick on this Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day, I spent several hours reading about the selfishness and corruption that is Ohio State football. It sure appears that OSU's motto is "winning at any price". Nothing else seems to matter at that school.

As I read, I contrasted Terrelle Pryor with Nile Kinnick. Nile Kinnick stood for something a little bit different. He was a student first; a football player second. He served his country. He gave his life for his country.

Kinnick actually stood for something. What a true role model he was for young people. I know he was a role model for me when I was a young man.

I'm proud he was a Hawkeye. I hope his memory lives forever.

Do you think they will erect any statues for Pryor? What do you think young people living in Ohio who are Ohio State fans think of Pryor now? What a disgrace.

Post of the day! Kinnick shall be remembered forever. He was so much more than a football player. We can all learn a lesson from how he lived his much too short life.

Kinnick never won a Big Ten title or a National Championship, but he won the greatest game of all....the game of life.

He is still a great inspiration to Iowa fans.

You might want to visit Amazon and look for KINNICK-the novel. It has a prologue that offers the facts of Kinnick's life, then tells the story of what might have happened had Nile survived WW II. And it's written by a native Iowan, Hawkeye letterman and Iowa grad.

I will find it.

I know Al Couppee (one of his teammates) was convinced that he would have been President of the United States if he had lived.

Hard to dispute it
