After toiling in anonymity for 3 years, Pat nearly gave up football. Now, he is leading the NFL (albeit, preseason nfl) in tackles and due to injury to Brackens, may start the Colts opener as the field general on D.

I'm sure college football is full of stories of guys who nearly hung up the cleats for good, only to perserver and start for their college team. Not many probably make it to NFL however.

also makes you wonder how many near-angerer's there are out there that gave up too soon. in a way like the kurt warner story, never give up and the hard work pays off.

Derek Pagel was another one who nearly quit after being buried on the depth chart. Nearly went to Wartburg where he could play running back. He chose to gut out another year (2001), and ended up getting significant playing time. By the time he was a senior, he was a key cog in our defense, and got drafted by the Jets.
