Eastern Illinois is ranked #18 in the national 1-AA poll. I hope the Hawks do not take them for granted!!! If they do, we will have a repeat of the UNI game. A loss to E. Illinois ruins the season!!

Beware, Hawks. These teams are better than you think!!!!

I won't ever forget it. Impressive game by UNI ... and poor game by the Hawks. One hell of a lesson for the Hawks though ...

... the coaches will invariably get mileage from it for at least a little while. Unfortunately, young guys tend to have a short memory.

UNI had one of the better offensive lines that Iowa faced all of last year, plus a veteran quarterback.

I see this Hawkeye team as being able to dominate some opponents this year, and I think you'll see that against Eastern Illinois.

EIU is really ranked in the top 25 for FCS teams? I though I read somewhere they lost a lot from last year.

In a couple of the preseason mag's that do FCS rankings I have seen them anywhere from #18 to #14. They will probably be an 8-3 or 7-4 FCS team, the Hawks can't take them lightly but on the other hand the starters shouldn't be playing in the 4th quarter either.

Their QB will be better this year. ;)

That UNI team had some big game and big atmosphere experience, to go along with their solid line play and veteran QB. They also had pride on the line playing about 90 miles down the road from their own campus against the big dog in the state. Couple that with a flat Iowa team, and you had a recipe for Hawkeye disaster, which we nearly saw.

This EIU team, on the other hand has been in some big atmospheres (Penn State last year), but not really any big games (not a playoff caliber team like UNI was). They also don't have the in-state pride factor going for them like UNI did, and they're breaking in a new QB. They can (and will, IMO) be shaken early. A 3 and out capped by a sack, a fumble, an INT, a blocked kick, or a homerun from Stanzi to DJK. Any of these things happening early on will shatter their confidence and open the floodgates, and I fully expect to see one or more of them happen en route to a comfortable Iowa win.

That UNI team could have been something special last year....but about midseason they gave up and got stoned instead.
