Remember Albert Young having big first half at Ames - do it again

I think it was 2005. Another windy day in Jack Trice and the Iowa running game came out stomping on the cyclowns. If I remember we started trying to pass it too much and had some issues, then tate got his bell rung on an INT, then crap ensued.

I bring this up because someone in the Rudock is Starter thread mentioned we shouldnt have to throw more than 3 passes against ISU this year. That we should be able to run at them all day.

I hope we can run it right down their throats. Maybe not sexy but I want a friggin win there. If that is our strength that day on offense then use it. And throw in some counter action like reverses and jet sweeps.

But also be ready to make them pay with a timely pass against 9 in the box. Cant wait.

Wally Burnam is a very good DC, and he'll find a way to stop the run. Iowa will have to pass effectively to win.

Not sure if serious...

Honestly though, their front seven are bad. I heard on KXnO last night the beat writer from the Ames Tribune said that ISU's RBs were dominating in camp, and it wasn't because of the RB talent level.

It wasn't 2005. That was when Iowa went into Ames ranked 8th or something like that and ISU beat us 23-3 after Tate knocked himself out trying to tackle a guy after he threw a pick.

Yep, 2005 was an awful game. One of the worst Iowa games I've ever seen. They could do nothing right. I recall a bad INT and then even Tom Busch (sp) had that awful fumble (sorry if I forgot who fumbled, I killed a lot of brain cells that day trying to block out the pain).

Albert Young only having 18 carries that day is criminal. First play of the game the Iowa oline just gashed the ISU front and Young took off for about 30. Then Tate threw a dump off the Tom Bush for another first, he fumbles at the end. What a cluster **** of a day. Then Tate throws the awful pick a series or 2 later and knocks himself out with an even dumber move making the tackle.

My bad. I stopped reading after the OP said we were stomping ISU.

C'mon HFN, I am a Des Moines Southsider, I wouldnt lead you astray or glorify some loss.

My point is Albert and the other running backs could of and should of had 50 carries for 300+ yards.

He had over 100 easy at half time but we got behind because again KF decided to go into the wind in the first qtr and KOK decided he needed to blend in the pass and get balance on a windy day. Ahh the old braintrust.

You remember it well. Another example of KF taking the ball when the wind was coming due south at 30+ mph.

I just cant understand why KF cant learn to take the wind sometimes to start the game, win the toss then you defer , they take the ball and then you choose the wind at your back.

We lost the game to Chizek Cheesesticks clowns there for the same reason when they kicked 3 first qtr FGs with a strong wind. DUH

If the hawks do have the horses and ISU doesnt then it shouldnt matter what burnam does. The hawks will be facing run blitzes and defenses sliding toward first movement so again Iowa needs to run some counter stuff to make them pay (which we usually dont do) and throw over the top of their 8-9 man in the box.

Read this and then tell me if you think he's a good DC Wally Burnham - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports
Sounds like the beat writer from Ames Tribune is hallucinating.

I'm not sure I have ever been more mad at the conclusion of a game than I was for the '05 ISU game. I remember watching Tate getting knocked out and all the fans there erupted in celebration. And then of course when ISU was taking knees the "over-rated" and "Cyclone State" chants came out. Just a horrible game. That Monday was brutal. All the clowntards in my department were dry humping each other in celebration. Just sickening...

and, typically in camp, defense rules the day as OL not in sync, etc.

Please tell me the top 3 pizza joints on the south side.

What??? you think I am scamming you.

Orlondo's and Bordenaro's and Scorno's (I dont even have to spell it out just spell it the way everyone on the southside says it).

Acutally some of the best pizza is to buy pastorelli canned sauce, mozzarella, grated parm and romano, at Grazianos and put on Grazie's sausage, pepperoni, coppa and what ever veggies you want on either a homemade crust of a good store bought crust.

Crust, sauces, toppings, layer the mozza then sprinkle the cheese, The parmesan gets a nice golden color.

My Italian father grew up on livingston about 3 blocks from Grazianos.

I am not trying to turn my own thread into a get on KF for some of his in game coaching moves but on that day in 2005 in AMes, Hayden would have taken the wind at his back and just run roughshod against ISU. Cuz he scratches where it itches. :)

And fry would have had about 6 big pass plays for 180+ yards to burn them good.

Thanks, man. I'll probably head to Scornovaca's tomorrow. Never been there before. I've tried Jersey Guys in Beaverdale and just wasn't all that impressed. Others love them, though. I lived in New Jersey for first job right after college, and got spoiled on genuine Italian Pizza. I haven't found any pizza in Iowa quite like that out there.

Wally is a good DC. A lot of stats bear that out. Whether he has good enough ingredients this year remains to be seen. I do think they will sell out to stop the run and it's tough to run against that even if there is a talent disparity.
