Reisner vs. CJF

There has been a lot of talk about CJ Fiedorowicz and how he is just going to dominate this year. While, I agree that "the guy is a house," and has an enormous amount of potential, do not forget about Mr. Reisner. Reisner has shown good hands over the past two years, and Stanzi has shown he has no problem throwing to him in a jam. More importantly, he has seemed to earn the coaching staff's trust when it comes to blocking as a tight end. Expect CJF to get some playing time, as most 2nd string TEs do at IOWA, but look for Reisner to be the cornerstone at that position this year.

No TE will play a great deal, until they block well. This is where CJ will need to improve and do so quickly.

Reisner has been a quality Iowa TE and will continue this year but we will see CJ I think as well.

How could we forget about the starting tight end? he's been nothing but solid, if anyone has forgot about Reisner then they dont wear black and gold

Reisner will be drafted, if for anything, his blocking ability. iahawk is right, no TE plays for KF unless they can block.

That's the wrong way to look at things...its not CJ vs Reisner...not at all. The thing to be excited about is that its CJ AND Reisner! A double tight end threat is an Iowa trademark and something to be feared by opponents.

Scott Chandler played pretty well as a receiving TE before he was any good at blocking.

This. Not every TE to play at Iowa is Brandon Myers or Tony Moeaki as a blocker (though both had considerable receiving ability, as well). I can't imagine that CJ is going to be a God-awful blocker this year, and with his talent in the passing game, he's going to see the field early and often.

I expect Herman to remain #2 in front of CJ. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see CJ get the #3 reps before he grows his chops as a blocker. Herman, IIRC, got into the mix very early and young at TE...as did Reisner, so it won't be like a "Wow, this has never been done before!" kind of deal.

Now, if CJ leaps to #1, that will be a WOW! I think he'll remain #3 this year.

I think that you're right on the mark here Mesaclone. CJ's blocking will improve as the season progresses. However, the interesting thing will be how Iowa uses BOTH guys ... and, particularly, how they use those guys in sets when they're on the field at the same time.

Frankly, I think that we'll probably see some 3-TE sets ... with Reisner, CJ, and Herman. It should be tough for opposing teams to defend too. Opposing teams will have to worry about the run ... but each of the above three TEs are viable receiving threats too. Heck, the lone WR in the set could potentially be McNutt ... the mismatches that such sets can cause is pretty fun to imagine!

While I agree that CJ may get #3 Reps this season, I'm excited about some of our other young TE prospects as well. We have had some real good luck recruiting TE's the past few classes and I don't think anything is a given.

The thought of that gets me absolutely giddy. 4 receivers over 6'3". Splitting C.J. out would be impossible to match up against. 6' 7" with speed and hands.
