Regarding the Pro Day

Is it just me or is a 39.5 inch vertical from Angerer ridiculous? Seems high. Wow

Numbers looked pretty good except for Spievey running a slower 40

Spievey does not seem to be helping himself. For his pro-day maybe he should have just wheeled out a TV and put on the tape.

From what I understand the good teams evaluate on tape anyway. He ran faster at the combine and everyone else ran faster at the bubble so something seems out of whack with his time. That is why they are checking with their source. He actually had a fairly good time at the combine compared to the rest of the corners. Angerer and Edds certainly helped themselves today.

Check out Tony's Verticle. Sick. This is very cool that 28 teams showed up for a bunch of 2 and 3 star recruits. I think KF is crazy like a fox.

Hate to rain on this thought because the sentiment is nice but Bulaga, Edds, Moeaki and Dace were at least 4 stars by one service or both. Angerer was a consensus 3 star. Spievey was a 4 star JC coming back although he could be the diamond in the rough as a high schooler for sure. Next years draft class could definately be held up as this example though with Stanzi, Reinser and possibly Morse being drafted.

Yeah, a lot of the guys were pretty highly rated. I think that Stross and Edds were kinda split with regard to how they were rated by different recruiting services.

Regardless, 2011 will be interesting ... because plenty of teams will be coming to see our guys then too. Definitely a pretty nice class. Vandervelde, Stanzi, Morse, Reisner, DJK, Clayborn, Ballard, Klug, Hunter, Tarp/Johnson, and Greenwood ... and that's leaving out Sandeman who I think is capable of putting up a VERY respectable SR campaign among others. Not unlike this year, the group in 2011 will be a nice mix of diamonds (like Reisner) and highly rated guys (like Clayborn, Hunter, and Ballard).

Do they measure their stretching? Couldn't figure what I was looking at on a couple of those pics.

As sick as Moeaki's vert is Angerer's is 3 inches higher! How does that happen?

By the Hawks chucking conventional wisdom out the window. Contrary to popular belief outside of Iowa, we actually do have athletes who are football players. They aren't just a bunch of overachievers.

Not sweating the rain. My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek.

Anyone else feel like the bench press reps seem low for the OL players? The top performers at the combine were doing 35+ reps (some freak put up 45), and I would like to think that our guys would be somewhat competitive in the strenth category. I don't even want to talk about Spievey's 6 reps.

If I'm not mistaken a lot of our strenght program is about building core or real life strenght as opposed to reps on the bench press. We do a lot of the Rocky IV and turning over tractor tire stuff. The reality is provided you are "strong enough" there isnt a ton of difference between 25 and 35 reps at 225.

I don't think Doyle emphasizes bench press much at all, it is more about power not strength

I had a teamate in highschool, all he did was bench and he was benching 385 as a fullback, but was on of the softest runners on the team. Bench is nice if it coordinates with other stuff, but it doesn't mean everything.

This guy respectfully disagrees with you.

True...there is more to playing OL than bench press stats, but it obviously something that is taken into consideration if it is one of core combine tests. I trust that Ferentz and Doyle have a much better perspective on what NFL teams are looking for than I do...just thought those numbers were low...considering that the PSU QB (Clark) put up more reps than most of our OL.
