This guy is my new favorite Hawkeye. I don't care if he ever plays a down. His work on the recruiting trail has been stellar.

Should make us all take a step back and realize how much JC did for the program even though he didn't end up performing on the field as well as we would like.

He is scheduled to visit Minny this week with a friend. He said he promised the guy he would do it with him and states that we have nothing to worry about, he is a Hawk through and though, which I have no doubt of since he is pulling all these recruits our way. I only hope that he talked to the coaches and that they are aware of him going up north. Kirk may take it that he is not fully committed and could hypothetically yank his offer if he feels slighted.

Jake helped us to land Moeaki and Richardson .... getting those guys "on board" alone was pretty huge for the Hawks!

Of course, one thing that undermined Jake's development was that he was surrounded by a ton of youth and inexperience ... and that really ended up hurting his confidence.

If Fleming remains in the secondary ... then he'll joining the D at an absolute PERFECT time. Iowa's D should simply be insane good in 2013 ... and definitely very good in the surrounding years. Thus, he most certainly won't be caught in a situation where he'll be hurting confidence-wise. The D should definitely have a "swagger" in those years.

Anyhow, it will be pretty wicked to have a secondary manned by Nico Law, Tanner Miller, Reese Fleming, Torrey Campbell, Jordan Lomax, and BJ Lowery. I'm willing to bet that that group ends up developing into a terrific group!

While I agree that Jake didn't have a lot of experience around him, I think his own ability (or lack thereof) was what undermined his development. I think he's one of those kids who unfortunately hits his talent ceiling in high school and has little room for additional development.

I watched the Iowa-Indiana game from 2007 last night and I was astounded at the magnitude of how horrible Jake's decision making, footwork, throwing motion, lack of touch, etc.... were. More astounding is the fact that I had forgotten how bad it was. Makes me appreciate the years we had with Ricky even more. Even the completions that Jake threw in the game, made the receivers work 10 times harder than they should have had to. We got pasted 38-20 in that game and after watching it, I found myself wondering how we won even one game that season. Thanks be to Norm, I guess.

I always wondered why O Keefe goes after lefties. He had two good talents come in with Christensen and Weinke, and one flamed out and the other will never play a meaningful down.

True ... there was definite buzz about Jake, before he was a regular starter, that his development was going slower than expected.

We'll definitely have to see what sort of development trajectory Fleming takes. You're definitely correct ... even with all the other pieces in place ... a guys still has to make the strides in learning the playbook, getting down the fundamentals, executing things consistently, and also making sure that he's interfacing seamlessly with his teammates.

Crap, wanted this to be a thread about Reese's awesome recruiting. Just brought up Jake, because he was the last Hawk recruit to have such a huge profile with respect to recruiting.

I agree ... Reese is doing a terrific job recruiting for Iowa. I'm willing to bet that Jaleel is an increasingly big contributor to our cause now too. Also, with Ward now on board ... maybe he'll be helping too .... every little bit counts, after all!

Anyhow, I'm excited if the aforementioned guys can help us land Ekakatie and Diamond.

In all honesty, given the recruiting momentum that we've gained thus far DUE, in large part, to Reese's great efforts (and the fact that the guys he's been talking to actually took the time to do their homework about Iowa), I can see Iowa having a shot also landing, in addition to Ekakatie and Diamond:

- The Minnesota trio: Pirsig, McDonald, W. Johnson (a really high-quality group of guys)
- The Iowa duo: Malloy, Darboh (it may take the success of McNutt and Davis to help us "close" on Darboh)
- The Nebraska singleton: Shoff

If you combine all those guys with our current commits ... that would up our total number of commits to 15 guys. Past those guys, there would only be very few more spots to fill.

Anyhow, I'm very excited about us being on the edge of having an EXCELLENT recruiting class!

Thanks, I both learn from and enjoy your posts.

Fleming is a perfect bell cow,no doubt about it. Is Ekakatie from chicagoland?

Bring them in Kirk!

Dude strike's again! Calls for Iowa to offer Gregory and the offer comes almost immediately.

EJ better watch his butt. This dude is coming after his job!

I'm excited too ... but we're still going to need to land Gregory and Diamond. Both guys have offers from Arkansas ... and it sounds like both guys like the Razorbacks too. Hopefully Gregory really does like Iowa AND hopefully Reese, Jaleel, and Ward all try to help pull those guys in.

Furthermore, it would be cool if we could end up pulling in Coleman too.

If Iowa were to land all those guys ... then that would definitely make a HUGE splash in our Illinois recruiting.

Just went to Arkansas' stadium last week. That is an impressive joint.

Hopefully these guys care about education, because that school is not even remotely close to Iowa on academic grounds.

Also, hoped they spent some time in the state. There is a reason it is dead last in college attendance.
