Reese Flemming at it again

sort of...

He made this post on twitter tonight: #Hawkeyenation go to youtube and type n David Smith he's a RB from Chicago tell me if Iowa should offer him"

So being that I had put the kids to bed and had some time, I went and checked out some youtube clips...the kid is put together well (6-1/190) and he is very fast...I think I read he ran a sub 10.7 100 meters. Has offers from directional Illinois schools...looks like the kind of athlete that if he doesn't work out at RB, you could build him into something on the defensive side, that is if he has those skills.

But he runs HARD...gets to full speed real quick and shows good vision on cutbacks and has good escape instincts for sure.

Found this snippet in this article:

He’s still a burner, as his 4.38 for the 40-yard dash attests. But that’s not all that’s earned Smith scholarship offers from Oregon State, Indiana and Michigan State, among others. “Good size, great speed, good balance,” CBS College Sports recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. “He’s a big-time guy.”

That article says he has visited Iowa..it was written one day ago

In that video, I saw a lot really bad defense (and pretty poor blocking) and way, way too much show boating. But the kid does look fast. He looks like he could be a D1 runner, but I'll trust the coaches if he never gets an offer.

No doubt about that. Just brining this up as Reese has been an interesting follow on the recruiting front, as it relates to other possible prospects.

I thought some one had mentioned he was suppose to call the coaching staff to see if he has a school. From the post we didn't offer. Unless there is some type of character issues i think we should offer =? :)

Based on reading an article from TOS, Johnson and Fleming both feel they can get Ryan Ward and Jordan Diamond to be Hawkeyes.

I saw very little show boating.

It depends a lot whether he fits from a character/eligibility standpoint but ,physically, he looks like a good one to offer. We don't have a lock on any good RBs this year. 10.7 and 4.38 at his size says all I need to hear. What are we gonna do? Hold out for a 10.3, 4.3 guy? The coaches judge character better than a lot of staffs( not a perfect track record but good). Worth a look.
Mo Flemming seems to be all in as a Hawkeye. That's maybe what I like best about all this.

hey, if flemming can act as another recruiter for us, i'm all for it. have to think that kirk and co will pull the cord on twitter once he gets on campus though.

Saw a short article in the Suntimes on this prospect last week...July 7.
Seems he was mainly a track athlete til his frosh year in high school...a bit of a late bloomer as a rb. Lemming said some good things about him. His stock is definitely on the rise, with offers from PU,MSU,Ill,among others with visits to Iowa, and scheduled visits to ND and Vandy.
Definitely worth following up on,tho. Hope Mo can bring them all to Iowa!

Well...I'm thinking that's not the best of statements. It's pretty hard to judge the character of an 18 yr old kid. Even if you think he comes from a good family and has his head on his shoulders, being a football player at a B10 school and having the freedoms of college can change a kid quite a bit.
