Redshirt

Our incoming class is six players and likely seven if Fran can find a worthy big man. I think we may want to redshirt at least one of these guys. Here is my best guess.

Ellingson: 0% chance. He already redshirted.

Wagner: 5% chance. We need immediate help in the post. Even if Fran lands another big man, I doubt he redshirts.

Flemming: 10% chance. He's played against good competition. Doesn't need to add muscle. Seems like our best chance to improve our 3-point shooting (other than Ellingson).

Moss: 15% chance. Could have the highest ceiling of our recruits. However, he was a bit of a late bloomer so perhaps he could use one more year to develop. I think we will need his athleticism though.

Hutton: 20% chance. He's by far the best defender in his class and that means he's likely to get minutes next year. On the other hand, he could use a redshirt year to work on his shot; easier to learn how to shoot than defend while redshirting.

Williams: 35% chance. We have a lot of guards as this point and his best chance of getting minutes seems to be at PG. However, this is a position he will have to learn and with two senior PGs he is not likely to get much playing time.

Overall, I think we probably only redshirt one player (barring injury). It's also quite possible that Fran will not redshirt anyone. Do you think we should redshirt anyone, and, if so, who?

Someone could get banged up and be forced to RS like Ellingson this year...obviously no predicting this. But if everyone is healthy I'm guessing so one takes a RS.

For the most part in college basketball only big men tend to redshirt anymore, and thats because they need to put on 20-30 pounds before they can really play. Its pretty rare for guards to redshirt unless its a medical one. If anyone redshirts I think it would be Hutton, but I doubt he will.

Iowa has probably around 50-55 minutes to give out next year with the departures of White/Gabe/JO. Should be good competition next year for playing time which only makes people better.

One person who really needs to step up next year is Dom Uhl. I was high on him at the beginning of the year, but towards the end he really didn't bring much of anything to the table.

Uhl needs to add strength. He has shown he has ability, but I think he probably wore out toward the end of the year.

I'm assuming a couple of them won't be on the team a year from now. The good news is unlike the Lick years, it will be the worst players leaving not the best.i like the odds of getting 2 really good players out of 6.
