Jon................What are the actual responsibilities of graduate assistants.
Secondly, do the rules allow them to recruit and if so with what limitations

Under NCAA rules, graduate assistants are paid an amount equal to a school's full in-state grant-in-aid. In addition, the G.A.s must be full-time students in graduate school.

As for coaching duties, graduate assistants can be like full-time coaches, but they are not permitted to contact or evaluate recruits off campus. G.A.s can phone prospects, though.

Individuals may serve as a graduate assistant coach for a period of not more than two years except that if the individual successfully completes 24-semester hours during the initial two-year period, the individual may serve as a graduate assistant coach for a third year.

He has experience to improve his coaching lot in life either at Iowa or elsewhere.
Also, GA's can be recruiting assets on campus or on phone
Do you think he would be able to stay at Iowa? Could Fran have 4 assistants, or would he have to say see ya later to one of them?

If Horner can enhance our in-state recruiting like I think he will, then I would definitely carry an extra assistant in 2/3 years. Fran won't want to fire one of his guys to make room for Horner, but if Horner has success as a GA, then I definitely see Fran keeping him.

NCAA rules permit three assistant coaches & a graduate assistant. So unless an assistant leaves, Horner is done at the end of two or three years.
