Recruiting Guru ? - How much difference is there between 3 and 4 star recruits

Iowa gets few 4 star recruits and hardly any 5 star. But there seems to be an upswing in 3 star recruits after a few lean years.

A question to you folks who really follow this and follow recruits after they have played a few years, how big of a difference is there between the avg 3 star and 4 star recruit? Does it make a difference by position, eg, do rating sites have a lot of 3 * and 4* Olinemen that end up being equivalent, but WRs that there is a big gap?

I would love to hear your analysis. Thanks in advance.

It seems very subjective and at times regional. I think many great players get 3stars and many 4and5 stars don't pan out. Your odds are a little better with 4 maybe but in my opinion it's more popularity than skill with some of the ratings.

How early they produce in high school vs good competition, region, and early offers from BCS schools. The region plays a huge role as the south, west and east all have more scouts for their respective sites.

In general ........

4 star = potential to contribute immediately in some capacity

3 star = likely more developmental time needed before contributing
