I use both, and have been using firefox for four years. I have prefered Chrome as of late as it's a google product with plugins that I like to use, plus it's lighter...it tasks your system less than other browsers.
In my opinion, and in the opinion of most IT people I speak with, Firefox or Chrome are better and safer options for you than Internet Explorer, especially the older versions.
