Reasons why Saturday REALLY matters

1. Is this scenario that outlandish? Wisconsin loses to Michigan, Michigan State loses to Penn State, we beat Ohio State and there is a four way tie at the top. Yes, we still go to the outback, but we will have beaten 2 of the 3 teams we are tied with. Yes, we need help in that, but it isn't outlandish.

2. If we win Saturday, chances are we finish the season strong against Minnesota and have a chance for a 10 win season, which while disappointing, certainly gives us some momentum into next year.

3. Conversely if we lose on Saturday, it is not outlandish to see us coming out against Minnesota and laying an egg. Yes, they stink. So does Indiana. If we go 7-5, the season goes from disappointing to a disaster, and people will be very concerned about next season. The program will have lost momentum.

My biggest criticism of KF is his inability to look at the micro, and only look at the macro. That one game can be that big of a game, that it isn't always about the big picture.

However, the way the season played out, the macro is now a really big deal, because how this season plays out could very easily have ramifications into next year.

So we need this game Saturday and we need it REALLY bad.

It still matters.

I actually think that if MSU loses to PSU and we win out to go to 9-3 that we'll end up in the Cap 1. I think OSU still gets an at-large at 10-2 and the Cap 1 chooses us over 10-2 MSU.
 
All we need to do is win out, Mich st lose 1 more game and wisc lose both games and we are in the rose bowl.. season saved. So all we need is someone to go kidnap the wisc OL, RBs and tolzien and hold them captive for a few weeks and season saved!!
 
  • It matters because it's basically our bowl game. No offense to the Outback Bowl.
  • It matters because they also had National Title/Rose Bowl aspirations, and misery loves company.
  • It matters because we never beat Ohio State, and doing so would be important to our program
  • It matters because we could still reach 10 wins this seasons
  • It matters because of revenge from last year
  • It matters to our seniors from Ohio who, by the way, will be playing their last game in Kinnick
  • It matters because somebody needs to win the conference besides Ohio State every year for crying out loud! Even if it isn't us :)
 
Its Senior day. Thats why it matters. And its against Ohio State. And I would love to see Iowa beat Ohio State anyplace, anytime.

You do realize that the CapOne will not choose us over MSU if they have a better record right? They had the same opportunity in 2008 and they did not do it. They didn't do it before and they will not do it now.

Big Difference. MSU had a better record than us that year AND beat us head to head. This year, while they would be one game better than us, we manhandled them head to head. Throw in the fact that they were there 2 years ago compared to 5 years for us and I think that might put us over the edge.

Certainly not a guarantee, just my opinion.

I can tell you one thing most pundits, most B10 teams want Wisconsin and more importantly Bielema get his given to him. Hell even Dickie V on the Louisville game commented about what a lack of class Wisconsin has in football...he openly questioned how you could do those things...totally uncalled for.

I heard that last night. Vitale was all over the place; talking about the Yankees and who should win the Cy Young in the AL, blasting Bielema and Wisconsin, etc... Hell, at one point he whipped out his Blackberry and started talking about how his kids got him on twitter.
