Re-watched Exhibition #2

Finally got a chance to sit down and watch Iowa’s 2nd Exhibition. Saw some really good things.

As we’ve been saying Cook and Garza down low are going to be an absolute handful for many teams. Really nice to see Cook catching and squaring up before making his decision. Had some nice passes.

Every one of our big men are willing and able passers which is extremely fun to watch. Garza, Cook, Kriener, and Pemsl combined for 11 assists.

Nunge didn’t make a big splash like the first game but had a two minute span in the 2H where he had a quick 7 points including two jump shots. This guy is 6’11 pushing up near 7’ and he runs like a 6’7 guy. It is going to be very hard to keep this kid off the floor. The big debate coming into the season was whether or not he could play the 3. He’s primarily been playing the 3 in the first two contests. Would not be surprised to see him move into the starting lineup at some point this year.

I do think that game showed how important Moss is to this team. His athleticism both offensively and defensively from the backcourt is extremely valuable to this team.

The defense still needs some work with slow rotations and what have you, but that is expected early in the season. Overall very excited for Friday night.

Garza has some great hands. He catches the ball in traffic effortlessly and finishes without recomposing himself. Very Pemsl like. If Cook had Garza'a hands he would be an NBA guy for sure.

Maybe Iowa basketball needs to invest in a jugs machine. Set that thing up about 10 ft away from Tyler and let it rip.

That's actually a good idea. There is such a big difference between catching the ball with a slight bobble and catching it clean and under control. Also being able to reach out with one hand to grab a rebound that isn't close to you really helps your rebound numbers. Cook can't really do that and his numbers suffer because of it. I remember White was unreal at that.

Garza does have good hands. And he hustles on the floor. Good motor. Feet still flat as Hell but you can't deny his motor. It should be fun to see him get stronger as he gets older.
