RE: Horner and GA Position

Rob Howe of HawkeyeInsider.com spoke with Horner today and Jeff says he has NOT been hired as Iowa's GA. There was a tweet by Todd Brommelkamp of Voice of the Hawkeyes yesterday congratulating Horner as the GA...and it got around pretty quick.

I don't believe that Todd would intentionally put anything out there unless he believed what he heard, and if you are in this line of work, sometimes that stuff happens...I have had it happen to me, to be sure.

But Coach McCaffery was irritated by this, as was Jeff. Nothing has been finalized at all, and while Jeff is still hopeful to land the position, he asserts he has not spoken with anyone about the process outside of those that he is closest to in this world. He and I traded a few texts and had a brief conversation a couple weeks ago, but those instances had zero to do with any conversations Jeff had with anyone at Iowa. I was more interested in just confirming that he was interested in the position.

Jon, have you heard about any other qualified GA candidates? It seems like Horner's name is the only one that comes up around here. I know that Horner had aspirations on being an assistant coach first and foremost. So if he is now hoping on the GA position, one would conclude that he realizes that an assistant gig in now unrealistic.

Some serious back tracking:

That said it's clear this is a mea culpa of sorts. Certainly didn't intend to upset any of the parties involved by sharing info I was given.

I shared news because I was under impression announcement was imminent, did not think it was a big deal. I do believe what I was told.

I have always admired Jeff as a person, player. It was never my intention to upset him, Coach McCaffery or anyone else at Iowa.

I understand Jeff Horner would like to make it clear he hasn't taken a GA spot. I was told by a very reliable source a deal was done.
