Questions I would like to ask our coaches

Why are not trying to make adjustments as the game goes along? I mean you are down 20 points, and you are still trying to do the same things. Why not try some trick plays, go to the no huddle, which nw did to throw them off balance. Throw some passes for 5-6 yards to the sides? Why try and go deep and forcing bad throws? Why not throw more mcnutts way and let him try and catch some of those balls against his double and triple team. Why not find the open receivers when he is doubed and tripled up?

Why did you not use mccall more this season, when you still had him? Why not use Johnson more. You guys are going to lose these guys, and Coker again will be our only running back. It was obvious yesterday this guy is beat up from over use.

Coaches why are you stuck in a rutt? Let's change things up. Why not try something totally unpredictable?

There is no reason with the offensive talent Iowa has this year, that we should not have scored more on a team giving up 28 points a game. Had you done that you would have won. How about taking what the other team will give you?

Coaches please learn to think out of the box!

Iowa actually tried a few token different sets yesterday, and Mcnutt was single teamed most of the day. The recievers were not getting much seperation yesterday. The only reciver open most of the day was the tight end and that was because we sent him out on pass routes a lot more than usuall.

Even, with some of these different looks we are still so vanilla, including the pass routes and run selections. It should be obvious that offensively we need some changes, but we know it's not going to happen.

A couple questions in addition:

1) why aren't we playing in rose bowl every year?
2) why aren't we winning this rose bowl every year?

2 orange bowls? If you dont understand what that means in the bcs era...well i cant help you.

It means an at large bid. Which means you didn't win your conference. In the pre BCS era it would be the Cap One Bowl. Which actually was a much better game against a much better opponent.

I was at both.

Truth is that Iowa is very average in all aspects in the football program. No arousing energy on the sidelines because that isn't Kirk's style, so that is what shows up on the field. Conservative styles on offense and defense, because Kirk's nature is conservative. The program has been very loyal to these approaches because Kirk has loyalty as one of his deepest core values. And there is more to look at, but all this adds up to predictability. Being predictable leaves little room for error in execution in order to achieve excellence. The much more reasonable result is mediocrity. That's the result we are getting and should really expect. Kirk is still a wonderful person.

2002, Iowa was an at-large bid. The tied for the Big Ten Championship by virtue of not playing OSUmw, but OSU got the Autobid.

Agree, very good and simple explanation.

I take exception to your analysis that McNutt was single teamed most of the day. On any of his longer routes he was also escorted by a safety. Where are the rest of our recievers. Do we have any underclassman and why aren't they being used?

It means they weren't quite good enough for the Rose Bowl those couple years so they had to settle for the Orange Bowl. Im not taking anything away from the 2 Orange Bowl teams, but the fact is they have zero Rose Bowl's under Ferentz. If Michigan State makes it this year only Minnesota and Indiana will have gone longer since its last appearance.

The question I would ask kok is why don't you call plays from the booth? you can see so much better as to what is opening up in the secondary. I will never understand this.

True on the long routes, but that was part of the problem, he didn't run many.
